So are there any So close or missed it by that much stories this year Or heaven forbid a "I won" type story

PS Wasn't it great to see a woman jockey finally win the race?

I thought that the horse she was riding won the race. :p

I didn't see any jockeys running down the straight.

Fairy tale story where a girl rides her prince and live happily ever after.

Payne becomes first female jockey to win Melbourne Cup.
Michelle Payne has created history by becoming the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup when she rode home 100-1 outsider Prince Of Penzance today. Her only other Melbourne Cup run came for Bart Cummings in 2009 on Allez Wonder. She had ridden the Darren Weir-trained outsider Prince Of Penzance in 23 of it’s 24 starts.
The horse was 100-1 before the day and took everyone by surprise to get a lead halfway up the straight and hold off a fast finishing Max Dynamite.

I'd think I'd be a winner going to LT's rather than the melbourne cup, way better value for money.... unless or course I backed the winner at 100/1 "then" visited LT's :D .... dreaming *sigh*

And if you hurt your fetlock You wouldn't be facing the prospect of being put down

I celebrated by riding a filly this evening. :p
XLNC you rode one more winner than me then as this mug punter did his hard earned $$$. I picked 2nd, 3rd and 4th in both Trifecta and 1st 4 and put the winner of the Cup with the two favourites in an Exacta and proceeded to win SFA. Do you know any fillies who take credit :-)?

I won because I did not have a bet so saved my $5. I only ever bet $5 on anything now days as this does not upset your friends or family when you win.Great to see a lady jockey was across the line first.

You are sensible. I'm the supreme optimist which is why I also buy lotto actually thinking I can win....call me a dreamer, among other names:-)

I must admit I spend more on Lotto I am actually going to win, the big one day. Every time I buy a big ticket, I think about how I am going to spend it and share it, I do most of this thinking on the loo for some reason.
