It wasn't my whole holiday but I made the mistake of booking a fairly cheap hotel near Sydney airport (could've found much better for the cost) Worst decision ever!!! Bugs throughout the tiny shower and blood on some of the walls!!! (I know what blood on walls looks like, some high school girls are really gross!!!) there was rubbish under the desk and the building was musty and uncomfortable. Then I nearly fell down the super narrow staircase the next morning carrying my suitcase and trying to dodge other guests. Urgh. Worst stay anywhere I've been and I've stayed in some really tiny middle of nowhere places.

Yes Miss Paige Prices or location are not necessarily the best guide
Stayed in nice hotels full of snobs or like your experience just plain nasty and yet the best hotel ever was in the Atacama $30 a night and owned by a family who could not do enough for their guests
