I agree with bepp712 You cant stop it I believe its part of our growing up process too
But hopefully we can reduce the severity of the bullying Today is so violent and with youtube etc ultra demeaning

It was embarrasment and and the odd punch /yard fight and not to mention the bully fave Mental torture when I was at school
No knives and whatever the hell else you have to worry about now Nothing a smack at a young age wouldnt of controlled
Sorry forgot discipline is nigh on illegal these days

Unfortunately i don't think you could ever stop it but hopefully more measures to control it can be brought in.

I used to love Christmas when I had a family and I always wanted a kid I could buy presents for, but being on my own I find that it's a time where people retreat into their families and those that are left feel like the losers of musical chairs, then the media and everywhere you look just push family and talk about loved ones to remind you of what you don't have. You're right it's definitely not the same any more.. well for me anyway.

Where all da Canberra Men?
Im from Melbourne. In Canberra for only a couple of weeks and I wanna see some good ole fashion country boys before I go back. Yeeeeeha.

I agree Madam Jacqui. The spirit has gone and its mostly a money making scheme.

I was bullied at school for most of my school life, and some of the teachers and priests were so abusive that some were charged many years later. I never thought I would survive but I did, but what kept me going was the mistaken belief that bullying would end once us kids became adults. However I discovered that when a person is bullied they either find the practice abhorrent or they become a bully themselves. It's the latter reason that makes me believe that bullying will always be around in some form.

Also as I discovered, school bullies don't all give it up when they leave school, they get jobs where they can continue it, and some organisations just love these alpha male, control freak, narcissist types as some organisations have reverted to the lead with the stick rather than the carrot approach to Management and these sicko's can really set themselves up by charming the pants off their managers while bullying their staff. This cost me my last job, I had a panic attack in a job interview two days ago because it was an all male interview panel who came across very aggressively - well to me at least, so the effects of it can last a life time and ruin peoples lives. I lost 5 over the years to suicide who were all in my final year of high school.

Thanks Mr Happy, I don't talk about it much, but since this was the school bullying thread, I have an emotional connection to it.

Ironic this post should appear today. This will be my 1st xmas without seeing the kids 1st thing in the morning. I was having a chat today with the x about what they had planned to do. And I had mentioned as she knows that this day is 1 of my best. Its a day where all share a common ground and all can sit and drink together for atleast for 20mins. Will miss that but not the mother in law baked ham:eek::wtf:

To change things a bit of our friend Jacqueline doesn't mind
Has anyone been fortunate enough to meet their school bully And find him to be a absolute loser in a crappy job or like my school bully, who towered over us as 10 year olds But is now still under 6ft and kinda scrawny and has that faded aura You know? That I was somebody once vibe?

No not me. One of the last things I did at school was I made a huge chocolate cake with laxettes, and I told everyone it was a present for the teacher LOL!... I think most of the class ate it. I was really quiet in class for the rest of that day :)

Had my 20 yr high school reunion last year. That was interesting. I was never bullied as a kid as such, anyone who tried got their ass handed to them, I never started fights as a kid, but when they started I made sure I was the one who finished them.
Nothing much has changed in that respect actually, lol...
There were definitely a few of the old 'Cool Kids' that used to lord it over everyone in school there. Fat, bald, unemployed, divorced, alcoholic's and more the lot of them. One particular loser who was the fastest damn runner I ever knew as 13 - 14yr olds and reigning afl badass player as kids, actually tried to get people to buy his drinks for him - this was being held at the Raffles in Applecross.
After getting knocked back by everyone he started off on a rant about what a bunch of f'ing losers we were and how he could kick all our asses, blah, blah, blah..
After he ended up getting escorted out we all had a collective moment of looking at each other and just knowing we were all thinking the same thing....what a loser.
Laughter started around the room and the tension levels visibly dropped after that.
Ended up being a pretty good night.

As to the OP - never going to happen. Birth, death, taxes and assholes.....these are four of the truths of life.

I was bullied at school by a teacher and it was a truly awful experience. I didn't do anything but he picked on me all the time and it went on for years. After I left school it was good that we never met again because I hated him so much and there would of been consequences. Many years later I still see red thinking about him.

Don't underestimate how much bullying occurs in the workplace. It is very common and I have experienced it several times. I wont tolerate it and have had several stand up arguments to defend myself and others. Generally after a big row the bullies back down because they loose control. Once it starts it never gets any better only worse so my advice is to confront the bully. Its not easy but it does work.

Sorry you had that crap at school too. And yes you are right about bullying in the workplace, it dropped I think in the 90's, but it seems to be gathering momentum again as unemployment grows, managers become more focused on "change management" rather than "people management" and employees are viewed more like an expendable commodity to facilitate change rather than a valuable resource integral to a businesses bottom line.

Unfortunately I have sen a few headlines like that re my old school in Tardun
Another Christian Brothers school

Though not enough of them
