Golden Meat Pie – Flaky, Savory, and Utterly Comforting

Few things are as satisfying as a classic meat pie. Crispy, buttery pastry encases a rich, savory filling of minced beef, gravy, and aromatic vegetable
perfect for lunch, a snack, or anytime comfort food. Every bite brings warmth, nostalgia, and a cozy, homemade feeling.

Ingredients (Makes 4–6 pies)

  • 500g minced beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (or shortcrust pastry)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: Sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add minced beef and cook until browned.
  2. Add vegetables and flavor: Stir in carrot, peas, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef stock. Simmer 10–15 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper. Let cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the pies: Preheat oven to 200°C (390°F). Roll out pastry and cut into rounds. Place a spoonful of filling in each base, cover with another pastry round, and seal the edges. Brush with beaten egg.
  4. Bake: Place pies on a tray and bake 20–25 minutes until golden and flaky.
  5. Serve: Enjoy hot with sauce or a small salad.

Opinion :
This meat pie is absolutely delicious! The pastry is flaky, the filling rich and savory, and every bite feels like a warm, comforting hug. Easy to make at home and perfect for lunch or dinner — a real crowd-pleaser!

Looks delicious now I need a desert do you know how to make saygo pudding.

Many years ago I was a driver working the roads and I had this regular truck stop I used to stop at because the coffee and food was just so good every Monday they used to cook up lambs fry and bacon with the sago pudding and the long que of drivers with knives and forks in there hands was right out the door delicious.

Sorry but the idea of putting carrot and peas in a meat pie just doesn’t do it for me.

Nothing beats a steak and kidney pie. I may be a minority here.

Anyone else love these ?

Oh, absolutely — you’re not alone at all! There’s something comforting about a proper steak and kidney pie—rich, warm, old-school flavours… total cosy-day heaven. I could go for one right now 😌🥧

Tell me where I can still buy one
