Intelligence first - looks do matter as well though.
why I say looks because the look is something that attracts us 1st and without any attraction. we don't bother to see. and we always say 1st impression is the last impression.

Intelligence is the icing on the cake that is good looks, but icing without cake has its issues. Good looks doesn't mean someone has to be a Sports Illustrated model - for me, height/weight proportionate, modern haircut, and confident demeanour are perfect. Interesting thread.

Looks for sure as the first hurdle for us men, cause unlike you women we have a third leg that needs sexual attraction to get it working. (Unless you close your eyes when doing it) Men are visual creatures after all. Then intelligence after.
Met a intellectual chick way back was great to chat with but looks wise got me shrinking every time I looked at her, so instead of taking Viagra or some sort of stiffie drug for sex & questioning my confidence( Is it ED related) I moved on to greener pastures.

Well not many forum members of this generation has met me... but for those who have they will know I did ok with the ladies back when there were four elements on the periodic table, and I am no Tom Cruise or even Jack Black... so I suspect that many ladies go beyond looks

To paraphrase Henry Rollins, “I want to meet a woman who can sit me down, shut me up, tell me 10 things I didn’t already know and who can make me laugh! Oh, and if you can do that then I will crawl on blood stumps through the snow for you” a tad dark, but you get the point 
I have met some stunning ladies some were great although after chatting with a couple of other ladies it was like talking to the chucky doll and il could not get away quick enough.

Women marry up in terms of looks, intelligence and wealth. Men are told forever by a society that we are not good enough and not entitled to anything and we must do X, Y, Z, etc to attract a woman.
The average guy has to be grateful that a woman that is far less attractive than him dates or marries him. I have seen plenty of average guys around town with women that look far less attractive than them. There is another option that is a man to opt out and not settle for a woman that is far less than him. All this self improvement counts for nothing when it only leads to a woman that does not improve herself.

One person's smart is another person's dumb. You can have academic book smarts but when it comes to handling life or dealing with people you can be dumb, socially retarded. Examples of this are: Rain Main or Sheldon Copper from the Big Bang Theory or The Good Doctor.
