What do W'L's tell people they do for a living?

leah.

I'v seen the question numerous times about having a bf while you do this job and if they know etc but I would like to know what other W'L's tell their friends, boyfriends and family what they do? It's not even an option that I could tell people what I do either.

I find it's hard to keep up a lie, trying to get out of someone offering to drop you at work or pick you up etc and I'v also had a few people question me on how I afford to live where I live and live how I do on an average $800 a week wage. I thought that the lie I had come up with would work as it's not a job where my friends or boyfriend can drop in to see me but it's getting to the stage now that I'm being asked alot of questions. I would love to hear about other W/L's experiences and situations.

Before entering the industry I worked in IT, so I've been able to continue that on except now I tell friends & family I'm a Consultant so I travel around for work & also work from home.

It works well for me because as soon as I start talking about anything IT they look lost. :D

i'm new to this but i haven't told anyone. i mentioned to to my best-friend that i was thinking about this line of work and she said if i followed though with it i would lose her as a friend. (nice one hey..) so yeah, im lying to everyone to avoid hurting them and losing friends. bullshit i know but what can you do. pretty much i just make like i never quit my last job which was in hospitality.

Hi Missy888,

You could still say you work in the Hospitality Industry, just that you are now working as a Temporary Contract worker. This would explain your unknown hours and/or place of work.

In my experience the best lie is always closest to the truth.

i tell people a lie very close to the truth, i just tell them my last career choice n stick with it. My last career choice works the same type of hours that WL work so it is easier to explain the hours n late nights.

Hey Missy888.
your face looks familiar.
wern't you in that movie with that rabbit.
Hmmm, whats that darn rabbits name?

I know a lot of girls say they work in security ie. security guard, phone work for monitoring alarms etc. Also hospitality is popular for the hours.

alot of girls say a call centre eg 24 hr support for internet, phone companies.
i work in an adult shop. same industry, different arm. makes me feel like im lying a bit less

Depending on whom I'm speaking with my answers range from a) the truth; b) "babysitting" c) working at the casino as a cashier in the upstairs section which is why I can never be seen working there and/or can't be found to 'chat' with if friends drop in to the casino of an evening d) IT support desk.
Hope that helps and remember, what you do is YOUR business and you have the right to choose whether you tell people or not. Love, Sheldon Thervasa x

I've been struggling with this as well as I can't stand lying to people. But working as a nanny is a good one, as it explains why you work for a few weeks and then you're off, you can't answer your phone often (you are helping the kids get to bed/eat dinner/do homework), and you get paid quite well because they are a rich family.

Hehehe.....Kitten I should have thought about it myself.....brain surgeon that's a good one.
Now....serious girls.....unfortunately it is like that: if you work in the industry you have to be prepared to lie......that is the nature of the beast. I am not saying that I like the lies but social perception pushes us in the corner. I know that non of my friends could handle the truth......well that doesn't make them bad people.....it makes them less liberal.
It is a good idea to find a job(excuse) that won't tie you to one place and that explains weird hours. Security is a good one......cleaning (private and commercial) is another one. Hospitality is ok but usually people ask where you are working and who knows they might show up on one of your so called shifts and you are not there......too risky for my taste.
Hope you got a few ideas love.

Personal Consultant has a credible ring about it. Many W/L do a lot of listening on the job. LOL

Up to each person to use what they feel comfortable with.

I just tell people I run my own photographic business (which I do lol) and do website design for the adult industry (which I also do) so no lies there. I have also told people I reception for the adult industry and provide room rentals for same (again which I do) I just choose to only tell certain people about the other side of the jobs I do - which is escorting.

What a Friken world.
Ferals & Mo-Fo’s with no fricken money, no future, making babies, just because they can.
Then, when the same feral Mo-Fo’s have too many babies, all of us have to help to
feed the poor little fkrs or they’ll die.
Then when they don’t die & start rooting, just cause they can, they make their own babies & just
continue with the vicious circle of overpopulation & put an even greater strain on the earth's natural resources.

But that’s ok, those little so-so’s are so cute, as long as your not a known prostitute.
Because prostitution is immoral.
Even though it’s the oldest profession, it still has to be all cloak & dagger.

They want the truth & probably would like the truth, but they can’t handle that truth.
Well, I say “friends” can go to Hell if they don’t approve of what you ladies do because they are Not real friends.

My experience with this is slightly different.

I've told all my friends that this is what I do. When I first started, I really, really hated not being able to be honest about who I was: I didn't like the fact that it created an automatic distance between myself and the people I loved; and it irked me that society was telling me that I was supposed to hide an element about myself out of shame when in fact I wasn't ashamed at all and, in fact quite proud. It quickly became important to me to have genuine and honest relationships with proper depth and to me to do what I could to break down the stigma associated with this line of work: I take the view that if someone has a problem with it I can educate them or alternatively they'll realise through me that their impressions of the industry and the people who work in it are inacccurate.

I have never lost friends as a result and, in fact, it has helped me develop relationships with like-minded people and even strengthened relationships. I am a very liberal and out there person in my personal life and the people I want to attract and develop relationships with are those who are equally liberal so their acceptance of what I do is a good barometer. Bottom line is that I don't want in my life anyone who is not willing to be open-minded about something like this. In addition, a lot of people want to gain some insight and that gives me the opportunity to break down stereotypes and misconceptions; plus it seems to automatically make them more open about themselves both generally and sexually - I guess because they recognise me as unlikely to judge them and feel they have no need to worry about being ashamed of everything.

Having said that I understand the difficulties associated with this. I have experienced the stigmatisation associated with being a sex-worker and had people try to use it against me on many occasions as a way of discrediting me. Because I have a good network of close friends who know and accept it regardless it doesn't bother me so much and I look at that as the price to pay for trying to reduce the stigma.

My best advice is to surround yourself with people who will accept you for who you are. Even if you have to conceal it from family (because we can't choose our family), acquaintances, other colleagues and the general population, it makes an enormous difference to be able to be upfront with those you want in your life - it removes a lot of the pressure and stress of living a lie and really does help create deep and meaningful relationships. It is also quite amazing how many people are truly accepting. For every person who turns out to be the jerk you're expecting, there's also another who reveals a much broader character that you weren't expecting.
