Looks really interesting and the woman of that era were a bad bunch usually addicted to gin and opium

Loved it! Not necessarily the depiction but the photos and the bravery of these women in a time that viewed prostitutes the scourge of the earth!
I wonder what the hard labour entailed?
Love to know if anyone has some knowledge of this please post.
 
Well, it was the 1920s. The world had just come out of a war, it was on the cusp of the great depression. I suspect a few of these women were borne out of wedlock largely from mothers of soldiers who didn't return, others were from orphanages and it was a time when a woman got married and settled down to become baby factories so they had no skills nor employment opportunities in these troubled times.
