Father O'Reilly was new to the district and was hopelessly lost trying to find a neighbouring parish to conduct a funeral for the reverend who was on leave.
After much driving around he spots a church with men nearby digging a hole. Must be it.
Skidding to a halt near the gathered men, he jumps out and asks the men to bow their heads for prayer.
Father O'Reilly gives a long, stirring prayer committing the dearly departed to the earth.
Upon finishing he notices all the men in tears. “Do not shed tears of sadness for he has gone to a better place”.
One of the men look up: “These are not tears of sadness Father but of suppressed laughter. We’ve never experience the commitment of a septic tank before. The funeral is down the road at St Joseph’s!”
