Those scary/icky but generally harmless moments

Where I go running regularly in the local forest, there are Orb spiders that make huge webs across the tracks and unless you're specifically looking for them, you're liable to run face first into one. This is a pic of one i took last summer after I'd run through it's cousins web and reacted similarly to you H2....

I used to see them when I rode in the forest in Hackets Gully - trouble with being on horse back you ride face first into em - and their webs are like fishing twine!! Horrible! My daughter and I used to mark all the tracks were we saw them bu putting a red ribbon around the tree before start of track - that way we avoided it lol

Jimmy Barnes singing is icky and it's scary to think that Aussies simply need a loud voice to make it big in the music industry. Generally harmless but tends to be uncomfortable to my ears.

Speaking of Barnsie My mate was in a pub in Sydney and there was a Chisel cover band on
Remember him saying there was a bloke up back drinking tea/coffee and heckling the band
It was Barnsie He said he chatted with him and that is one of his fun pastimes Heckling Chisel and Barnsie covers

Probably worried that others make his songs sound better.

I also just heard Jessica Mauboy sing the national anthem. I thought I was hearing a seven year old until I looked.

Barnsie and Mauboy performed at NRL Grand Final that I'm half watching.

I played in a band in the late 80's and we were booked to play at the Golburn Valley hotel in Shepparton and as a covers band we did some Barnsey songs, and coincidentally Barnsey was playing in the function room in the same building and he was so loud that there was no point in playing!.. plus he was better at playing Barnsey songs

Why must these Artistes insist on interpreting our national anthem?

They all want to add their particular twist to it. :singing:

Sorry h2, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Icky..... mowed the lawn recently. Frog was too slow but still managed a couple of hops with half the top of this back sliced off.

No hijack Mr Little Everyone's idea of icky varies
P.S. I honestly think it would be a bit hypocritical of me to be miffed by hijacking of threads Don't you think?

not icky but scary....
im juggling 3 jobs during the week and one is cleaning a big office at a old building.
rumors are that the building is haunted. people have heard kids laughing, and apparently a old man sitting in the toilet. also people have driven passed at night and saw the old guy on the top floor by the window at night.
Anyways, i thought it was all bull till one night i was there till late around 8pm and while packing my equipment, i heard footsteps from the top floor.
i work by myself so it was very freaky.
i actually left my equipment there, turned the alarm on and took off home lol
i left all the lights on too haha
i told the office ladies in the morning and now i noticed they put some kinda charm or beads on the door knob of their office.

Your story reminds me a little of the supposed ghost at the Freemasons hotel
The spirit of a young school teacher who hanged ( I got that right didn't I Mr Little XLNC Hanged not hung?) herself late in the 19th century
Poor girl is said to have been single and pregnant But some of the bar staff swear they see her But never full on just out the corner of their eye and only the young single girls

Now whether the older hands tell them the story to frighten or they genuinely see her I don't know

i havnt seen the ghost yet and i hope i dont see it but my mates told me to snap some random pics with my phone.
but im not going to coz if i do catch something on camera i would seriously consider quitting my job lol
i did softly say hello to the ghost and said im only here to clean ur building so please leave me in peace hehe
i learnt it by watching ghost hunters on fox :)

Correct, h2. Our efforts to raise standards are clearly paying dividends, resulting in a warm inner glow I like to call smugness (aka pomposity's wingman). Hung is what the other albino dwarves call me.

As for the poor teacher, nowadays she would probably die of shame on account of the appalling grammar her pupils inflict on the world.

In the late 80's when I was doing my dip in Remedial Therapy the Academy I studied at was at Clontaff Boys home premises. That was the eeriest place I have ever been to, you could feel the tragedy in the air. We were, as a group, doing a session playing with psychic energy and conducting experiments on energy fields. It was being conducted on a purely scientific level, we were all sitting with our eyes closed and touching our study partners hand and transmitting sensations like hot and cold, colours etc by thought to see if and how it impacted and, if it did, on the recipients senses.
The room was meant to be really quiet and I got peeved because someone in the class was being noisy and giggling. After a moment I opened my eyes and addressed the class saying "We cant conduct proper studies if we don't take it seriously, stop the giggling or go outside, I'm trying to concentrate"! Everyone started talking at once, but the upshot was no one in the room was giggling and everyone thought it was another of the group, it was a child's ghost.
One of the toilets too constantly leaked and dripped water and a slime stuff down the wall. None of us would use it, a young boy was murdered in there and his body not found for 2 days. Some evenings you could hear wailing and crying too.

Was a tragic place, it really gave one the creeps and none of us would walk to our cars after alone.

I had couple of web entanglement myself...saw no spidey...I tried to shoot web outta my palms, alas, nothing.

I call those "big game hunter spiders"

Ever wondered how a silvery grey spider got called a "Golden Orb Weaver? Their silk is covered with an insecticidal coating which repels predatory ants and If you look at their webs in strong light they are yellow rather than white.

If you have enough spiders and enough patience the silk can be woven into cloth as per these links:

You wouldn't want your working girl attired in it Get it off and your times up

That's interesting especially about the ants, as there are huge ant mounds everywhere along the tracks too. Between the gazillions of ants, spiders and snakes, it's a nice place during the day but I wouldn't want to get stuck there after dark. Unless clothes woven from orb web might help! I know what I'm knitting h2 for his birthday :)

When I lived at Hacketts Gully - had 15 acres surrounded by the forrest on 3 sides - there were so many creepys and crawlys that seeing a snake was like so ho hum!! I had a huge dam as no scheme water and loads of snakes but other than one in the paddocks one year they never ventured near the house. Which cant be said for the plethora of spider ( UGH) flying thingy's ants, all sorts of brown scaly creepy things ( and not just the locals lol) kangaroos, emus, possums, foxes mice - the only creature I ever had real scares with were the spiders! Oh and the odd local with a shot gun that I fought with for trying to shoot the foxes on my land!! I had horses and grand kids running around and WE all loved the foxes!! I may or may not admit to feeding em lol
