It is unfair for us. We are taxed left right and center. Working on ABN could help the ladies avoid paying tax by claiming their dress, food and vehicles on tax and end up paying nothing. The net is getting tighter on our necks yearly with new tricks and exceptions.
 
It is not just internationals that are avoiding paying tax. If you pay be card you get their business names. Do an ABN search on the business name and you will find not many are GST registered. International or caucasian. I have not found one.

They may pay income tax but they are massively under reporting. If they are not GST registered then they claim they earn around $1250 a week. They do that in a day.

It is why I have always paid by card. If I pay tax so can you.

Problem is that they add an "EFTPOS fee" that is so high that you end up paying the tax instead and they pocket what you would have paid in cash. Unless you are saying that the cash and card amounts are the same?, which is rare if at all?

Just FYI eftpos fees are now illegal if the rate they are charging is more than the banks....which of course it is. They only charge the high fee to encourage cash to avoid taxes
Just tell them it's now illegal and you'll report them and that should sort the issue

The banning of EFTPOS fees is a prelude to the possible abolition of paper money.

They can get away with is because 99% of punters aren't going to open a complaint where they would need to disclose the type of transaction they were making.

I've walked away on occasions, when they request payment upfront and try to slip the extra $5 in .. and sometimes they all of a sudden don't need $5 extra too .. works 2 ways. But got to be sure that the 'checkout chick' isn't the chick that's going to screw you over after anyway .. lol
