Should Cigerette Smoking be Banned?.......................

Never going to happen........anything taxable will never be banned.

Nah Asbestos was taxable And was used in everyday life by a massive percentage of the population
And the government banned synthetic cannabis Also taxable
If the government ban smoking it will be just another thing that takes away our choices and freedom. The age restriction and outrageous tax is enough.
Plus it would be like banning drinking, I wonder how well that would go down
I don't think any pollie would have the guts to even try banning booze. However, the wowsers in charge of the licensing court do a pretty fair imitation of the old-time temperance movement.

Interesting piece of history:

Back in the tsarist era in Russia one of the Tsars became disenchanted with the Eastern Orthodox church which was the "official" state religion and embarked on a study of various faiths and philosophies. Along the way he became very attracted to Islam and wanted to convert but his advisors held him back. You see, had he converted Islam would have become the official State Religion and he, as the head of State and head of the church would have been obliged to enshrine the Islamic teachings in law.

Now a Tsar, like a feudal king, ruled by divine right but he knew only too well that even Allah would not save him if he tried to come between the Russian people and their hooch so he gave up the idea.

I agree with freedom of choice. But it would make it a lot easier for me and other smokers who are trying to kick the habit to actually do it.

If smokers are intelligent (Hee hee if thay was intelligennt thay woodn't bee smoking) pretty or performing the tasks that We non-smokers think are beneath us let them smoke
But 55+ overweight men who like moderating forums and have Pirate fetishes Off with their heads Which ever one you wish lop off executioners choice

I wont say smoking should be banned I mean I was a heavy smoker until 30 years of age it is a vice yes but a legal one If smoking does not interfere with me I can live with it So can a smoker For a little while longer anyway Knock on wood

As an ex heavy smoker of 3 years , my first reaction is to say yes ban them , but I do believe strongly in freedom of choice, so the government should cut those bs taxes, something like 90% of a packet of smokes down to match say beer.
Smoking is very much a harsh, poor persons tax these days,
If the they banned cigarettes the government would have to admit that pollution is actually a major health problem, far greater than smoking ever was

Okay reduce grog and cigarette taxes to a fair level
But if we are being fair What happens to smokers when a Carbon tax (If labor re-elected ) is returned Smokers would/should be heavily hit ;) Shouldn't they ?

I might get rotten eggs thrown at me for saying this but Tax the crap out of these smelly ciggy and make it as expensive as an ounce of gold. :D
