Scams on Locanto

Hey all,

I can spot the obvious Locanto scams (strange wording, asking for email address etc), but any advice on the not so obvious ones?
Had a person reply to my ad who didn't have a locanto account - they say they can't reply online and insist on using phone numbers.
Does that sound like a red flag or am I being paranoid?

I think I tried messaging someone via locanto a while ago, could be misremembering but I think it was ok to let me message them providing only an email address but when they replied Locanto wanted me to register on the site to view the reply (the email from Locanto that they had replied didn't contain the details)

It's a weird site and sometimes hard to tell what is a glitch from actual scammers, like it looks like sometimes ads from other sites just randomly show up in results, and if you check the address seems set for the other state so it doesn't seem like something the advertiser did wrong.
 
Haven't had a lot of experience with this, but I did do a lot of searching on Locanto when I was in Melbourne and everything I wanted to do had shut down due to COVID-19. One thing I noticed was girls using the exact same profile as others. You see this, leave it alone. Others I noticed were in the "Too good to be true" basket. Another one I saw had a number of photos, and no way were they the same girl. Another time I saw the same photos under different names in different locations.

I saw one who kept saying something like, "Only in Melbourne for 2 days", and 2 weeks later they're still in Melbourne for only 2 days.

I feel a little sorry for the genuine ones on Locanto. As I've said before, after a series of disasters in Melbourne I tried one more time when I got back to Adelaide and found one to make up for all my frustrations. They are there, but it's like the princess having to kiss a lot of frogs before finding her prince. Certainly give Skokka a wide birth, that site is a joke.
 
There is a lot of bullshit on there and the filters don’t work as promised if you try to search a particular service you wind with tons of expired ads and fakes.
It’s a shame that cracker shut down to be honest as it was mostly.

it's also very annoying that Locanto keep expired ads on there.
so if you search for tuart hill, you probably get about 20 hits, with about 18 x 'expired ad, do not contact' message.

I think the problem with that is a lot of people don't pay for their advertisements and they end up everywhere.
If someone was looking for me or anyone who does a Massage. It's best to Google up, "Locanto Massage Rockingham" and you can see all the ones in that area and in the close surrounding areas.
I have noticed a lot of fake adverts (some people probably get bored of watching "Neighbour's or whatever is on TV that night and think it's cool to play silly bugga's), I say ignore the timewasters or the one's that don't look real and look at the ones at the top of the page, they are the ones that pay and have legit phone numbers.
Not everyone is fake on Locanto, i've been on this site for 7 years.
 
A lot of fake photos for sure -but there are some good ones among them. Just be prepared to walk away if it isnt what you expect. Even if they SMS you pics there are very few that are real. its all 'bait and switch' so be warned.

We have a paid ad on locanto for Langtrees Darwin. I didn’t say all ads were scammers, just a lot are. But it’s best to have all your bases covered I say

Do what I did, ask them to send a pic with something unusual. In my case, I asked the girl to hold a sign with my name on it. My name is spelt in an unusual way so when I saw the sign with my name spelt correctly, I knew I was in business. If not a name, ask her to hold something like a tea cup, or a red towel, etc. As I said before, the girl I saw must be used to people wanting proof because of fake adds, she didn't question it, she just did it.

I don't know, I don't use the service very often. My action was prompted by frustration when I was in Melbourne. I returned home to Adelaide and decided to give it one more try. This was the first and only time I'd done it, and I was very pleased she was quick to respond. Then Covid-19 kicked in.

My clients take my word that I am legit plus you can see on my advert that my number is real.
My work phone doesn't have a camera, so if anyone asked me to send a picture with something written on it I wouldn't be able to do it.
Oh well, such is life! ;)

Yes, every circumstance is different, but at that time I'd had a gutful of fake ads, and had she not responded in that way, I wouldn't have gone to see her. I was ready to just give up. The funny thing was, she looked even better in her response than she did in her ad, and even better again in person. :)
 
I do not ask the lady to do anything to prove their photo authencity. Fake photos are usually used by Asian establishments and it's the managers who write the ads and put the photos up. The numbers in the ads are directed to the managers and not the ladies.
When I decide to visit an Asian establishment, I already know the photo is fake and the name of the lady in the ad will be different from the person I will be seeing.
And in many situations for me, the lady I end up seeing is not too bad after all.
 
It didn't use to be so bad however having a look recently its beyond a joke. I hope punters walk away when they say a burd 30 years older than advertised age. I know I have especially when I spend as much as I do!!!
 
Yeah I've been doing the reverse image search and you'll find the same ads being used currently in other cities with different phone numbers. Either they're fake or they've developed some awesome teleportation travel!
