On the recommendation of some fellow WL's I rented the first season of Satisfaction. An Australian drama set around an upscale parlor in Melbourne. The girls had said it was hilarious and a must see.
The portrayal of the sex industry by the Australian media was something which intrigued me, plus I thought perhaps I might learn a few things. Secret Diary of a Call girl certainly taught me a few handy hints. The British series really is a fabulous representation of what truly happens within the industry.
Satisfaction is much more dramatic and slightly less realistic. There are 6 women; 5 escorts and the madam. The first three episodes were a little dull, as the characters had to built. The fourth episode really was hilarious as the dowdy receptionist "jumps" the desk and joins the girls on the other side.
The highlight of the series have been the transformation of the dowdy receptionist into a confident sexual woman. This is something I believe most, if not all WL's can relate to. All of a sudden your sexual prowess is awaken because men will pay money to have sex with you.
The other facet I must commend the writers for is the normalcy of the WL's private lives (even though overly dramatized). Four of the five ladies own their own home. None of characters suffer with drinking, gambling or drug problems. Two are in long term committed relationships in which their partners are aware of the profession. All six women love their work.
There certainly are a number of scenes which are completely unrealistic. One of the WL's allows a client to inject her with a drug to knock her out, as he has a fantasy about having sex with corpse. However, it is a fun interpretation of the industry.
