Oh yes..........certainly can spot you on the latest shot but ........sigh.......woman you don't make it easy............so just tell me....where are you on the other one? Sick home with a cold?

now......saving money is supposed to be a good thing but be aware that you are not allowed to leave you account untouched for more than 3 years because otherwise the government will just take it. Well, you have the right to try to get it back (just go on a website and follow the links) but it might take up to 7 weeks.........

....that is soooooooo f###ing ridiculous I am nearly speechless and that doesn't happen very often.

is

PS: maybe it is time to keep the money in the mattress again ;)

............as far as I know the recent government changed the time frame from 7 years to 3 years.
However.....I don't care how many years...........the government has no right to take private funds.......touched or not touched. Maybe we should open our own Forum bank ;)

Nah!! another press beatup.

The unclaimed moneys law has been in force for ever - it was law back when I got my first job in a Bank in 1965 - right after those dinosaurs got clobbered by a meteor.

Banks and other financial institutions are required to flag any inoperative accounts and if funds remain unclaimed and the owner cannot be contacted the money is sent to A.S.I.C. but it is not ":taken by the Government' and can still be reclaimed by the owner on producing proof of ownership.

There is a bit more info here:

Link is broken, so taken down.

One aim is to avoid unused funds being gobbled up by Bank fees etc. It is also a pain for Banks when customers move and instead of closing or transferring accounts they just withdraw the balance, forgetting about accrued interest and leave those few dollars sitting there.

So if you do move around or change jobs frequently make sure you keep track of all your Bank accounts, super funds etc and make sure you take them with you.

Spot on Sven
I think it may have been ten years when I had my 1st job in 1981( Yes even I am younger than you Sven, and I am a oldie on here)
I had an forgotten account But the bank wrote me to let me know it had been inactive and so no dramas

If talking banks and monies Who remembers putting in their 20c or so each week into the R&I school banking scheme or similar And who if anyone ever got their money It was just forgotten by most of us

Shall we make it the Sex in the Forum Bonk? We need a new revised Bonking system. Who will be the Bonk President?

We still have to think about the interest we might give to our Bonking Bank clients and how they can pay it back...........Homer, I am afraid we have to investigate further ;)

Ah yes, my dear Rochi. Well, all Bonking systems in the world encourage people to spend and they charge more interest. In our case, we encourage Bonking clients to deposit more. The more you deposit the more interest you'll get in return. ;)
