This may sound petty but really it’s annoying. Firstly many of the AMP,s have lifted the rates for use of room by $5 I.e one hour was $70 now $75 , maybe fair enough to cover the increase of costs , but when they then charge another $5 on top for using a card, that is going a bit far. By rights the additional charges should be
  • Eftpos: less than 0.5%
  • Visa and Mastercard debit: between 0.5% and 1%
  • Visa and Mastercard credit: between 1% and 1.5% As per ACCC , which also states :
  • Businesses can charge a surcharge for paying by card, but the surcharge must not be more than what it costs the business to use that payment type. Clearly not the case in the land of AMPs.
Of course I know you can just get the cash to avoid such practice, but the point still remains they do not have the right to charge such an extra amount in the first place
Ella Yuan have also started this practice,even for regulars.

Nothing to do with card fees TBH, it means they need to declare the income and then pay tax on it, that's why they do it.

Is it legal or ethical? No, but what is in this industry? 🤣
