Like to get peoples view on organ donation, nooooooooooo not that organ you silly men but I mean the heart, liver. kidney, lung etc...

How many of us have agreed to be organ donors??? I think if we could pass on some of body towards helping another then it`s a great thing to do but sadly I was reading the other day that the final choice is not up to us but our loved ones instead. It seems they have the power to override our wishes...
Not very fair.

If you are an organ donor then thank you, well done but please explain to your loved ones that this is your final wish and for those non donors please take some more time to think about it, what`s the point in letting the bugs eat?? :notworthy:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy

Im with you BB I am a donor and the better agrees at the moment.
But we have to wait and see if she still agrees if the unforseen happens

When are you too old to be a donor? I mean seriously......heart, liver etc. might be still ok but if the person who passed away is let's say over 65? 70?
Do they have a look at the organs regardless of the donor's age and then decide 'yes useful' or 'no already over 65 years old'? :icon_scra

Hi BB,
where did you read this? I always thought that as long as we are certified as mentally healthy it is up to us and not our beloved ones........hmmmmmm

I think as far as actually organs for another human they do take age into consideration but it is always possibile to donote your organ for research.

When my step father passed my brother and I instantly both asked if the was anything we could donate. It can be something as simple as some skin.

Am I allowed to post a link?? DonateLife | Australian Organ & Tissue Donation & Transplantation Authority - DonateLife

A question for the family... Would you want to see where your donation went as happy as it is to help another or is it too much of a reminder of your loved one??

Hi Rochelle I believe BB is correct in that even though you may have done all the paper work to allow your body to be used to help others Your direct family can still overide.
When I filled out my paperwork and my donor card arrived there was still a letter asking me to talk it over with myfamily

I am all for organ donation but was told by a couple of people never to tick it on your drivers license, as they will harvest before your family can view your remains....bit sad for the family seeing as they take skin & all sorts..but yes definate yes! Tell your loved ones what your plans are for down that road people??:occasion14

I think the license thing is gone now and we had to fill out some forms instead asking what they can and cant have? Did you know the skin is the largest organ in your body!

All my family and close friends are / were organ donors and it's comforting to know that even though you've just lost someone close, someone elses family may not have to go through the same thing.

From memory there's a memorial board at lake monger(?) with a growing list of organ donors as well.

Yes WRXXR Lake Monger is home to the memorial . A local near me had her daughters sight saved due a families donation. She has twice been to the memorial She cant
know the identity of the donor but just being there is a token of her thanks

I've made sure my family knows that I want to be an organ donor, its so important it gives me peace of mind to know when I pass hopefully I'll be able help someone else.

Regardless of whether you've chosen yes or no; Family/spouse that are present can agree or disagree. This is why it's important to let them know your intentions.

Personally I couldn't imagine not being a yes guy. You could save 1-10 lives some day!

As I see it they can have what they need when I am gone and I have told the family my wishes - one thing I am against though is when governments talk about introducing legislation to make it an opt out rather than opt in thing. They want it so that your organs can be used whether you wanted to be a donor or not unless you went through the process of opting out, to me it is up to the person and government shouldn't have a say in it. I will still remain a donor (when my time comes) and if anything can be used to make someone else's life better they can have it.

I can see your point Maxxy But for me personally I dont have a problem with
the opt out . I mean we have to make a concious decision to become donors,
only to have family stop the process . And I know opt out comes across a bit 1984'ish
But if its only answering a question when you get your license or similar, no probs for me
But again just my opinion

I am with you Maxxy.....the government should stay out of it. I have nothing to say against a government supported advertising and promotion campaigne to educate people but that is where is should stop.

Good point Emilee.....blood donation is as important. I only wish there would be another way to give blood than hanging on a needle. I have got a rare blood group and should actually donate but I can't get over the 'needle in arm' thing........nightmare. :dontknow:

R.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Rochelle as a donor of claret who like you has a rarer blood type. I can assure
that the needle used doesn't hurt (unless your silly enough to look at it)
The old flu needle is worse.

I have a very common blood group, so should donate, as most of the people needing blood, are the same blood group as me. However, every time I go to donate blood, my iron count is too low. Am workin on it.

Hey Aleisha Unless you are against the eating of red meat It seems like a good excuse to have a nice T_Bone or Lamb roast And if vegetarian silverbeet or spinach

... mmm, thanks for that suggestion. For tea tonight I will have garlic steak, and silverbeet. :occasion14:occasion14

Hi Ladies

Legally WL's are not allowed to donate as we receive money for sex. It's one of the questions asked before you donate. They obviously still screen the blood and plasma for STD's etc.

Alex

Hi AlexandraSilk I realise they ask the question of W/L's but
is that for blood donors only or all donations?

I haven't been asked that in written or any other form. I will check if it is the same in NZ.

When you donate your organs does your family get whats left of your body back so thy can bury it?
I have got the feeling that there is nothing left for your family....not that that really bothers me. I just think it should be made clear. Take the bits you want ...then give the rest back.

I know it sounds horrible word. But after they "harvest" the required organs The earthly
remains are released to the family for burial or cremation.

Sorry to bring it up again but I`d just had a thought...

All thos politicians etc that clam all they want to do is serve the people,
What if we made it compulsory for them to donate.

I would have suggested their brain but the problem is it`s already been programmed to one thing only which is to think of themselves and there is no reset button.

The thing is bb they do have brains but they channel the use of said brains into re-election and little else as another polly once said Please explain
If they used their brains correctly they may have found a wayto solve the organ donation
problem. I mean they are supposed to have top notch advisors surely one could steer them in the right direction without upsetting the myriad self interest groups.
