A "healthy weight" is what?


To maintain general health, one must maintain healthy body weight. You can evaluate if you are a healthy weight using measurements like the Body Mass Index (BMI) and waist size. BMI - To calculate your BMI, multiply your height in square inches by your weight in pounds. multiplied by 703 after that. You can interpret your BMI result using the ranges listed below. A BMI calculator is another option.

  • Less than 18.5 = underweight
  • Between 18.5-24.9 = normal
  • Between 25-29.9 = overweight
  • 30 or more = obese
If you are a child, a pregnant woman, or someone who is less than 5 feet tall, your BMI may not be a reliable indicator of your health.

Measure the circumference of your waist after exhaling by placing a tape measure halfway between the top of your hip bone and the bottom of your ribs. Your skin shouldn't be compressed, but the tape should be snug. Less than 31.5" for women and less than 37" for men is considered a healthy waist measurement.

Overweight

Strong evidence supports the idea that being overweight raises the risk of certain malignancies as well as other illnesses like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It is important for cancer survivors to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Furthermore, research indicates that having too much belly fat can increase health risks even in those who are healthy weights.

  3. Practicing physical activity
  4. Minimising sedentary pursuits

Underweight

Ask your doctor or nutritionist for advice on how to keep a healthy weight if you are underweight or have lost weight unintentionally. Some of these tactics consist of:

  • Throughout the day, eat smaller meals or snacks more regularly.
  • Instead of waiting until you get hungry, plan your meals and snacks throughout the day.
  • Pick items like almonds, dried fruit, liquid oils, and avocados that contain a lot of calories in little amounts.
  • Include dietary supplements in liquid form (e.g., Ensure, Boost, Carnation Instant Breakfast).
