Need help with a name for a political party

I am on the lobbying trail to get the new green bill overturned. I think this is achievable as getting a very good response by the politicans.
If it gets chucked out the Liberals will try to sweep under the carpet and the industry will be left in the twilight again.
I have committed to finding a resolution rather than a comprise and to get politions to listen and take us seriously i have told them i will set up a political party find 9 other strong willed people like myself and stand in all the unsafe seats in WA.
i have no political affiliations, and no ambition for a lower house seat, but believe we could get enough votes to upset the balance.
So start posting with name thought all i have come up with is the PIA Party for pain in the Arse.....

Hi MAK,

If you are considering setting up a polictical party in WA, I would suggest that you have a look at the WA Electoral Commission website, in particular, the registration process. The link below contains a guide to help answer any queries.

Basically, a proposed party would require a minimum of 500 members & have a Constitution otherwise candidates would have to stand as "independents" or "unaffiliated" candidates. As for a name, just be aware of the restrictions placed on what a name should not contain so PIA would more than likely not be approved (an apt name but.....). :)

It would also be recommended that the proposed party be incorporated under the Associations Incorporations Act (so as to limit potential liability on members in the case of, for example, an insurance claim, a law suit etc), see this website and follow the links to an example of what the constitution (the Rules) should contain.

The actual application process to register as an association (as a seperate process to and prior to registering as a policatical party) is not all that difficult.

Thanks Fudd do you want the organisation job, we will do no fund raising as langtrees.com will support the campaign and if we keep it simple won't get into any dramas like the Queensland bird.
Can you advise if we should collect 500 members, we could make it $1 membership or something.

If the polls are in their favour, then an election will be called before the term expires.

Usually, the tell tale signs will be announcements of some benefit to the community (dropping taxes, increase funding, no increases in utility charges etc) or bagging the opposition (accusing of some improprietary, leadership problems etc). My gut feeling is that this government will not run its full term. So, can this proposed political party sign up 500+ members (they must be persons who are qualified & entitled to vote in a WA election) and be registered before the next election is called?

If the next election was called for say March or April 2012, would this time frame be too tight to go through this process? If it is, then it may be simpler at this moment in time for you and/or a couple of other like minded persons to just stand as Independents or Unaffilliated persons, provided that you meet the nomination criteria. Then look at forming a political party at a later time if the political climate was conducive. Just a thought.

how about 'the I.Y.F. party' the in your face party,isn't that exactly what you want to do? you want to get in their face? you want to shove your agenda down their throat? you want to be heard? well if you do you will have to get in their way to start and to be heard,ever had someone get 'in your face'? did they get their point across to you,think about it,and once you start you cant faulter or back down as you will be laughed out and never taken seriously again,you will have to 'bull' your way in all the time and not once can you ever take a back seat.
 
Hmm.

I am not creative enough to come up with a name but a couple of marketing suggestions come to mind.

Don't sound like a "single issue" crank - people have had enough of that courtesy of Mrs Hansen and the Greenies.

Work out and articulate clearly where your party stands on all the issues which impact on everyday people because they are the ones whose votes you need. You are not going to win Government but, hopefully, if you sound sensible enough you will get a seat or two from swinging voters.

Actually, a thought popped into my mind while I was at the coalface today.

There is so much authoritarian "Nanny State" regulation these days, think about the restrictions on smoking, liquor licensing, attemptes to censor the internet and now regulate prostitution....

A name which suggests resisting Government meddling in personal choices could be a winner.
