Misinterpretation

Have you ever been talking to someone and said something that they've taken the wrong way? It seems that I do it a lot outside of work, and it's only after that I understand that it's been seen in a different light to what I meant.

It's insane how many meanings one word can have depending on the person, and even after apologising there is always the lingering guilt.

Have you ever been in this situation and how do you remind yourself to reword things?

All the time
But I've been often told I have my filters switched off and say stuff without thinking things thru

So I offend people regularly

Girlfriend...:p
Don't I know it...... in the world there are so many people that are sooooo SUPER SENSITIVE...
but hey, you know in your heart what your intention was.....

In the end I feel sometimes there are people who are reflecting their own fears & their own insecurities....
they are just mirroring what they are like & often they say it is you!

Have the confidence that you meant only good & if its taken the wrong way..... sometimes hey what can you do?

Trying not to over think it! I'm the kind of person that sits there and listens, then I might pipe up and say something and everyone goes quiet....this gets me heaps of times!
If your on good friend basis, you can say anything and nothing can't be talked about, if your aquaintented, just need to not say some things, if its a first time meeting, then its all small talk, roughly this is what I think, and probably why I'm very sociable but don't have lots of friends. That's the best understanding I can share.....

Just be yourself
and the best self you can be everyday!!!

Sometimes I feel I've been cursed the number of times people misinterpret something I say, or don't say, and I often don't realise this until afterwards when it's too late to clarify the situation without making a bigger deal of it. Not a lot you can do in these circumstances, so I don't let it worry me as much as it used to.

My favourite is when there is someone you have not gotten on with for years and years And you meet in an entirely different circumstance Like by chance in a pub in Perth or away from work like a fishing trip You chat because they are the only familiar face you can see You find some common ground , and find out you have far more in common than you ever believed
You may not ever become friends but very possibly very friendly acquaintances

It comes about people tuning into different frequencies. Some are on AM, some are on FM...and some are on OMGFM. You may come across those who are on the same frequencies and hums harmoniously with you. Then there are those oddballs whose frequencies are so out of tuned, you feel like whacking a tuning fork across their frigging head.

Unfortunately I tend to do this a lot. And frequently at work. One of the reasons I am usually so quiet, I've learnt that minimal conversation is one of the best ways not to offend.

Although once I feel comfortable with someone I can go non stop haha

Every drunk Irish guy I have ever met

I often do this at work, but I try to rectify the situation ASAP or apologise for the misunderstanding at hand. If the particular person in question won't accept either of these, well they really need to loosen up just a little !

Yep thats exactly what i do. I only spread my humour on people that have been tried and tested to be non offensive taker. lol...

Tell you the truth im sick of princesses that get offended over everything.
If I spoke to people like I get spoken to when I say something people dont 110% agree with.
Im sure id be missing some teeth.
Ive started telling people in no uncertain terms I dont care what they think of what ive said I wont tolerate thier comment again

Ive come to the conclusion most australian s have lead an extremely sheltered life to hark up over nothing the way they do

Bushseeker You think any of this Taking umbrage at everyday things is from this idea we now have for our kids that no one fails Schools dont fail students Parents often want to be friends to their kids
I was terrified of bad report cards as a kid Teachers in the early 70's were not scared to write about their students laziness and other faults And I see parents and kids now And often they appear on the same level
I loved my boys dearly still do But I was not their friend I was their Father
Reminds me of the story of the boy riding his horse home at a full gallop A road worker asked " Why you in such a hurry youngster"
"I am in a hurry because I did something bad at school and mum is going to give me a spanking"
" then why you want to get home so quick?"
" Cos if I dont get home before 6 Dad will do it"

Haha yes that is the way it should be in my opinion. There seems to be an increase of self entitled youth that don't know how to deal with failure.

Yep that seems to be best. I try not to take offence to anything people say to me unless I am sure it was intended that way. (Please note I said "try") :)

That's true miss Paige. I don't take offense when none was intended. Only prick who pick on me intentionally...like this prick at work who whinges like a sour puss. He's quite blokey but so much negativity coming out of his piehole. OMG...i swear I would call him Suzie if it was not for his appearance.
