Losing Faith in the System: Illegal Migration Out of Control

As someone who’s long supported fair immigration, I’m now deeply concerned by the growing dysfunction and unchecked consequences unfolding in Australia and the UK. What's your thoughts?

An interesting read Ms O. Immigration is a tough topic. In Oz with the exception of First Nation people we are all immigrants or their descendants. Our existence today would not be without immigration. Hard to believe the White Australia Policy was only abolished in 1973. Until then you had to be British (or at the very least white) to get in. Since 2013 Australia has had a 'turn the boats back' policy which has for the most part worked. We do bring in a lot of people on humanitarian grounds, as with any group of people some are worthy, some are not. Our issues are very different to the UK. I fear the worst for the UK as it's too late to turn back the clock. If we think we are doing it tough in Oz the UK is a basket case. Thanks for the thought provoking read :-)

Thanks for that - I was triggered by the news (which isn't fake) as well as long discussions with friends in the UK. You are correct we are still A LUCKY COUNTRY and the point was to highlight the extreme differences. Its a topic that will forever be contentious.

In Australia, we are now competing in the job market with all the other people of plannet earth in filling engineering roles. Employers are now allowed to recruite from overseas directly. Ten years ago there was less than ten applicants for every advertised engineering position. These days the number of applications is more than 40. The salaries have dropped by 30 percent. Many of my colleagues are just sitting at home not able to secure a role. Yet, the government keep faking good unemployment figures.

Malcolm Fraser let over 20,000 Vietnamese refugees into this country. We called them boat people.

The best thing he ever did.

Gough blocked them for over 3 years when in government.

We are heading their way. Our kids will not be lucky.
