Jason just told me that last year we had sourced an add on that allowed the forum to be viewed from newest post to last.
Its the only feature I don't like on zenforo is the viewer isn't given an option, I find it much easier to view newest post first.
Jason tells me they tested it for a week and took it down because you the members did not like it. I was never shown it or even told about it until today.
The add on means every one has to view the forum the the same order so I'll put up a poll as I am trying to decide whether we should test it again.
Do remember that it still gives you a box that shows you most of the 1st post.

Mary Anne i remember back in the day ( about 8 years ago ) when i 1st joined up , you ( the member ) had a choice in your own settings to view the post either or . but we lost that add on the 1st software change . :-) :-) and then it was set in the site control panel . :-) :-)

That choice was in v bulletin zeneforo is different, its all Newest or all oldest post first.Currently we view oldest first, my preference is newest first.

Isn't that option available to all in "Sort threads" giving you different options to view? Or have I totally missed the point.

Harry can you explain have I missed something, where on a thread do you sort I will look it over again.

I can't find sort threads anywhere. I am always viewing in administration view so please help explain.
PS I like your avatar, not porn its hilarious.

I like the latest post showing first... in any case there is an option to check the last post you did not read....
so if you never read that thread, you would go to the first post... I am guessing.....

I use the jump to first unread and then scroll down to follow the latest posts.
If the newest post was at the top, it wouldn't make sense scrolling down, it would be like you get the answer before reading the question.....?...

Ive just realised that under the heading General discussion, gossip etc you can scroll down to the bottom of the page and change the order in which you view the threads.
However once in a single thread, you can't change the order of the posts.

Hope that makes sense
:)

Harry , great pick up , actually the drop down box for ascending and descending order is @ the bottom of all sub-forums and not the individual threads :-) :-)

enjoy :-)

Mary Anne is it possible to have the latest posts first in the review area rather then the alphabetical order which it is now as it is a lot more easier to keep up to date with the latest reviews. (Similar to how it used to be)

cheers Rick

I like that if I've never viewed a thread before, it starts me at the beginning. If it's one I've seen before, it takes me to the oldest unread post first and I can then scroll through anything newer. Vote cast :)

The change has been effected it will take a few days to get around the change, but it will make the forum much faster to use.

Ahoy;- I like the change..........but..........it will take a little time to get used to it

Surely there has to be an option under preferences to select whether one wants newest post first or oldest post first??

This really isn't rocket science - vary basic programming skills required.

Happy to help if you want this option.

I like to read a book from title through to the finish Not the other way round :)

EXACTLY - how can one be expected to make a half-intelligent comment without knowing the background to the post - or for that matter, what others have already submitted or commented.

This is arse about face

Surely the people who voted for newest post first didn't actually know what they were voting for. :) this is totally arse about !!

You have to scroll to the bottom to then scroll up and read the posts in order, and if it's a long enough individual post you have to scroll down and then up again.... and don't get me started on what you have to do if the thread goes over two pages...I feel like a yo yo...

Simply scrolling in one direction from the top (oldest to newest to follow the thread) is the simplest, most logical, user friendly and I can guarantee the most common method used of all forums on the interweb...

Wwwhhhhhyyyy would anyone vote for this ???

Good lord. This is awful. People in Australia read left to right and top to bottom - who's dumb idea was it to change it and who on earth actually voted for it?

Maybe more important Who did not vote when the option was there
I voted nay by the way

For the record I voted No too...and commented the same as to why, much of which has been repeated here :(

So I know MAK will comment we're whingeing cos its changed...BUT...I land on a post at the top that has about 10 unread posts, scroll to the bottom to read them, scrolling down on a long post, then scroll up to read them - just weird.

If the post has a picture you are scrolling up, see the picture, then read the text to tell you what the picture is about, all arse about!

Someone who voted Yes, tell us why it works!?!?!?

Profile->Preferences->Thread Display Mode->Use the drop down box to choose 'Oldest Post First'.

Sorted! :)
