Broad statement....I have travelled all over SE Asia for 25 years I can pick the nationality 95% of the time...I am usually pretty good with regions within countries too, such as northern and southern Vietnamese, same for northern/southern/eastern Thai's. Cambodians, Laotians, Myanmarese are easy to pick once you have been there and seen thousands of them. Same with the Malays and Indons. I am pretty good picking the Paki's from the Indians, Sri Lankans and Bagas too. The ones that trip me up are the South Korean girls that look very close to Japanese girls. (here is a caste in Korea that is clearly Korean...they are easy to pick) I reckon I understand Asian women 10 times more than I understand western.

If you want to spark up a conversation with any Asian just talk about food. (but do your research and know what you are talking about) Another common topic from the asians now is how much they hate China.
