Is AI Killing Or Freeing Creativity?

So I downloaded, free to use, ChatGPT out of curiosity. It appears you can just about generate anything from poetry to blogs to pictures etc....

So is AI killing off originality, creativeness, artistry or is it freeing people to create what they have dreamed to do but found awkward?

Here is a sample of a poem and image I generated:

🔥 Red Thunder: Ode to My HSV Maloo 🔥

In the land where eucalypts sway and roar,
Rests a beast with a lion's core.
Clad in crimson, fierce and low —
My Maloo prowls, ready to go.

She’s no whisper, she’s a war cry,
Growling beneath the southern sky.
A heartbeat forged in Holden's flame,
Every street now knows her name.

Ute by shape, but don’t be fooled,
This isn’t where the tradies ruled.
With V8 veins and torque to burn,
She bites the road at every turn.

From coastal curves to inland dust,
She carves her path with grunt and thrust.
Red like fire, loud and proud,
My Maloo thunders, bold and unbowed.

Not just a car — she’s attitude,
With every rev, she shifts the mood.
A rolling anthem, raw and true,
All hail the red — my HSV Maloo.

You might note that ChatGPT used the wrong emblem and grill along with making the ute left-hand drive.

It did though generate everything else eerily accurate, almost a spitting image of my Maloo.

Base HSV Maloo models had a tonneau not hard cover on the tray and no side-skirt vents.

I love using ChatGPT to springboard my ideas in writing or posting. It sometimes offers things I hadn't thought of. I believe it can be used together with creativity. Its not perfect but I always thank ChatGPT just in case Skynet rises 😊

@Madam Media yes I feel it is a great tool to get the ideas flowing as an aid to creativity.

The above was the raw generated poem and image by ChatGPT which was great as a baseline to work on or sufficient in its own right.

I'll be keeping the ap as it's fun to use. What I did above was as an illustration how AI can be used by anyone that wishes to blog ideas but may have writer's block.

@Madam Media another thought I have is ownership. If you generate a work of word, art or music is it your own or do you need to credit AI such as ChatGPT? Would it be technically plagiarism?

I was also surprised that ChatGPT asked if I would like to compose a song with what was generated. It may also change the music industry.

As you mentioned earlier, its giving skills to people who previously did not have them for whatever reason, without them having to learn them.
That will enhance creativity globally but may be the end of the gravy train for those who sell their creations. Art, Music and Literature are the three good examples you have demonstrated.

True @West1, I’m wondering too if a creator who uses AI such as ChatGPT would in the future be slugged for royalties if a work goes viral?

Technology is advancing quicker than laws or ethics of their use.

I believe Ai is just another tool that we can use. I do not believe it is stiffling creativity, I believe it is just another tool that assists us in eXpressing the creativity that we have. 🤷‍♂️

I tend to agree @LongHair, I'll be keeping the app now after test driving it as it's fun to use and free.

You can get it upgraded for a monthly subscription but the free model is very comprehensive.

Artwork sometimes takes time as there is a lot of people globally generating but usually no longer than five minutes for a simple design.

The possibilities are endless tattoo design, music composing, writing, deep image searching etc.

I vaguely remember last year that the Screen Writers Guild in Hollywood were uneasy about the possibility of screen writing being generated by AI.

Realistic cinematography might even make many film crews and actors nervous if entire films are generated not just special effects.

People might follow a celebrity AI actor in the future.

Maybe a model similar to YouTube might rise where everyday people can showcase feature AI generated movies for profit. Their own generated creations.

Certainly interesting times.

Its more of a social faux pas to pass off AI work as original. It's demanded that you disclose any use of AI big or small. Which is fair as we ask the same of people who do covers or ghost write books that some credit is given to all involved. Some use AI technology wholly and receive praise that is not earned for hard work.

Still a new world for AI

You don't have to credit AI any more than you would credit a shovel for digging a hole.

AI doesn't do anything you couldn't do yourself with time and effort. It only wrote the poem because you told it to.

I think you are completely underestimating AI.Sure it cant physically dig a hole, but it could Hire YOU to dig it and pay you and you would never know. In fact I may have asked AI to write this, but I did not, or maybe I did..

So I've been enjoying ChatGPT and find it so user friendly....to me at least. It really appears to grasp your thoughts process and mentors you along offering ideas and encouraging.

At the end of my journey writing with ChatGPT's coaching it even offered options of development into publishing, film script, art or even composing into music....interesting.

Yes just a tool but really mind blowing the power behind the AI's computing and the speed it processes results.

If one uses the free version it cannot be claimed as his/her own for monetary gains. If it is a paid version I believe one can.

I may be wrong. Someone should check with chat gpt 😂

I tend to believe so, burried deep in the conditions of use that people rarely read just tick and next.

I'm just impressed with the computing power behind it given the users worldwide and speed it generates content.

The subscription might be worthwhile if using it as a tool to assist in creating paid works.

Free is fine for private use which I'm enjoying.

There are a myriad of uses for ChatGp, one I have found particularly useful (and fair warning can be totally terrifying as well) is to decipher medical speak and jargon.
I have used it to interpret CT, Ultrasound and other imaging reports.
This is where the warning comes in, if you ask ChatGPT to interpret a report then suggest long term prognosis and treatment options. If you dont want to know, dont ask!!!!!!

Most still use it like Google and have barely scratched the surface of what it is capable of.

Makes me think of the AI computer "HAL" in "2001: A Space Odyssey", a film made in 1968! The more you interact the smarter it gets. Prophetic maybe? Many films have forethought, vaguely, the future.

Not necessarily. There will be people who sell their creations with AI or without and there will be buyers.
I think AI will change the definition of "creativity" (as in "the use of imagination or original ideas to create something) to something that will include AI.
