Yes I can imagine it would be quite eerie walking around those old buildings with all that history. Make a very spooky night tour!

Powerful aurora australis puts on spectacular display of Christmas lights in Tasmania

Tasmania's aurora watchers have been treated to an extraordinary Christmas lightshow, with spectacular photos captured even from Hobart suburbs.

The promise of a strong display of the southern lights, or aurora australis, came over the weekend on the back of a coronal mass ejection from the sun.

The aurora was so strong it appeared vividly in photographs taken in suburban Hobart, where light pollution typically overpowers the polar light.

The powerful display pushed beams of light to extraordinary heights.

Unfortunately, it appears there will be no repeat performance anytime soon ​

But there was plenty of wildlife running around

The majority of people seemed impressed but I wasn't. While the building was impressive the art was a jumbled dogs dinner all thrown together willy nilly and could have used s bit of re-organising.
