How can they do that in a region of instability and conflict but Perth in a region and state that is peaceful, just as good weather, etc etc which it can't deliver it.... come on........ really why ?
 
I do agree with your post - but - its not easy to compare a place like Qatar or any of the gulf states with a place like Perth .. the UAE and closeby countries were basically all built on cheap (almost free) labour from central asia.

But overall yes, its hard to believe that we've now got what we've got after so many decades of free flowing cash coming out of the north ... now that river of gold is dry, whats going to happen? Honestly, we haven't learned to live within our means .. which means doing exactly that even in the leaner times.

As Zane mentioned above, cheap labour or even imported labour from other countries to help build their cities. Qatar being a member of OPEC...

This will never happen in Australia, with all the protection and minimum wage. The labour costs are high in Australia. And govt departments here are plagued with inertia and non-productive mindsets. Projects that can be completed in 2 weeks in other countries, will take a few months at least.
 
plus the oil doesn't bubble out of the ground here and get sold at a cost of under $8/bbl
 
Get real Phoebe.
You're showing photos of Doha (the largest city of Qatar) and comparing them to Perth.
Therefore you should either compare Doha to Sydney or try comparing Qatar's 5th largest town/city to Perth. Failing that then you should at least compare Australia to Qatar.
All will have stark differences but your argument is like comparing Mercury to The Milky Way.

We all know the reasons why.................but it borders on boring. So I am just going to sit and watch this thread go from being about this to this which is something totally unrelated - usually involving Phebes and Happy 2,also,as well.
