Hill walking

I’ve just started training for a big year of hiking next yearly, with a lot of time planned for the Stirling Ranges.
Does anyone know of some good hills in the metro or not far out that I can walk. I have a number of go to hills but would like to do others.

This guy has an awesome site that has led me to some great trails. Enjoy!

Baldwins bluff in Jarrahdale is good, especially once you're back into it. Also Wungong brook has a great walk.

I used both (and kokoda / jacobs ladder etc) for training in prep for a big walk i did in a different life and both were good.

Stirling ranges are fantastic. I'd love to do the ridge walk but these days it'd be unlikely unfortunately.

Thanks. I’ve done Baldwins but not Wungong, I’ll look it up. The Ridge Walk is on the cards for next year, among others.

Jacob's ladder is a killer - especially if you got extra weights on you. Soft sand beach walking is great too - again add weights and it can be a killer. Mind you a must do if you are planning the cape to cape walk.

I've done Bluff Knoll and Toolbrunup Peak in the Stirling Ranges in winter. Carried a heavy pack with photography and radio equipment.

Back home I climbed a mountain once a month to service a radio repeater. Views are always a reward.

Kokoda Track is a dream but maybe only a dream.

Love Bluff Knoll - what a great hike and awsome views. Was surprised how many people were on the peak ......... where did they all come from 😂 - didn't pass that many
Have you done any other hikes in the Sterling Ranges, WildBrumby?

Just Toolbrunup Peak. I made a base camp at the caravan park near the entrance to Bluff Knoll.

I have photos from the summits but fading as years ago before digital photography. I used an underwater camera due to heavy rain and cold.

My legs felt like jelly on the decent due to workout from ascending carrying a heavy pack of photography and radio equipment.

The Stirling Ranges are still a bucket list when there is snow as I've never experienced snow before. I was unlucky to just have extreme cold and heavy showers when I was there.

Yes, on my bucket list too. Only got a chance to do the Bluff Knoll hike and then the weather changed over night to the total opposite of your experience. 42 degrees and super humid - a freak temperature change for the ranges even during summer and far too hot to go on another hike.

Top of camping to do list now :)

Another one to go back to (maybe) is Mt Bruce - doesn't look like much but half way up is one spot I wasn't able to conquer because of acrophobia - a gap in the rock formation that goes right through - you can see the ground below - it only takes one big step to get on the other side and there is a rail there to hold on to - couldn't do it.
