Essendon

I am on another continent Where 99% or more have never heard of Essendon , yet they have made the inside pages of the sports section here

So were the players hard done by or get what they deserved ?

What is your opinion

Hi Hap2, hope you're enjoying yourself.

Can of worms time, yes they deserve what they get.

If you turn up to work one day and someone says we're going to start injecting you, you should ask questions. I'm sure it was sold as healthy and within the rule (just) etc,etc but at the end of the day all you have are your principles and integrity. Surely someone would have questioned the ethics of all this?

A sad time for Australian sport.

Makes you wonder if James Hird did the same while he was playing???? sad the golden boy is going to be known for this..

I think that the players got what was coming to them, this now sets the bar if any other club decides to go down this path in the future. I only feel sorry for the essendon fans, and the other essendon players who aren't suspended and have to play out a tough season.

Ahoy;- Yes they got the bad end off the stick LOL
We all now.....have an interesting session ahead, lots off clubs lost players LOL

Drugs in sports..........."is everywhere in every game", its only a matter of time before you get caught...LOL

vader i agree with you , the buck does stop with the player and or the employee , in saying this the club is responsible for a very large % , due to the contracts the players sign ,
when you sign a contract you are bound by it in a court of law , i am guessing that the player is not allowed to go outside of the club medical team for any of his or her health issues .
in saying this i do believe the players do have a very strong case against the club for a civil suit . and i do hope they all get plenty of compensation , including James Hird .

this should never have happened as the players put their trust in their club under the contract agreement

hahahahahaha

Absolutely agree that they what they deserve, I know plenty of ppl who have been sacked for taking substances that are banned, and they cant sue or get compo for that

But were the people you know who got fired filled up with the drugs by their employer Jimmy?

I agree players are ultimately responsible but the Essendon powers that be seem to have gotten out of it quite lightly

Whatever may have been in their contracts there is a list of banned substances on the WADA website, not one of 34 players thought to check this out?. Or inform ASADA on their questionaire that they were taking supplements?.

Got what they deserved, in fact should have been longer

Good point well made happy2, but if you were my boss and you wanted to stick something in my arm I would make sure triple sure that it was legal

Jimmy this is also a good point :) when you and your family go to the doctor for what ever reason , do you check on the medication and the procedures he or she has prescripted for your wellbeing :)

or do you trust your doctors judgment ??

Johnlou, if my job depended on passing drug tests, I would absolutely question what the dr was prescribing me

i think the point here is that when you go to a dr you want treatment to heal some ailment

But these guys weren't unwell, they are well-trained and fit athletes who wanted to gain an advantage from these injections

A good point that you raise JL, the difference being that you go the doctors when you're sick not a healthy, fit young man. I have no doubts that the club may not have told the players "everything" but if someone was going to stick something in my arm then I ask questions, even my GP when I'm receiving medication.

I think this just shows how culpable the Essendon hierarchy are and how tarnished one of the greatest players reputation now is.

I said it before all you have is your principles and integrity.

I wanted to stick something in an AMP lady yesterday and my intentions were honourable.......she said, "It'll cost you." So I took her advice.
