Kate, our legendary CEO at Langtrees, I owe you big time.
Let me tell you about the day she almost gave me a heart attack and probably a free trip to the ER.
It was after a brutal 14-hour shift, and I had exactly four hours of sleep before I had to get up, for an appointment at noon. I was horizontal, dreaming of unicorns and rainbows, when she silently snuck into my room ..... like a ninja on a mission. I had asked her to check on me if I hadn't shown by noon.
I heard her whisper, "Sally, Sally," like some kind of secret code in a spy movie. I was just about to open my eyes when suddenly, she shouted at the top of her lungs, "FIRE!! FIRE!!"
I lept up so fast, I think I broke the sound barrier. The bed literally tossed me, I grazed my head on the top bunk’s post and almost choked myself on my CPAP hose.
...................................because apparently, sleep deprivation makes you a human catapult.
I swear, she could’ve been auditioning for a horror movie with that scream. Honestly, I was halfway to a heart attack, and I was just about to light a candle and thank her.
You’re gonna get yours one day, Kate. And I’ll be waiting with popcorn.
