Like probably most people on this forum, I enjoy a bit of porn now and then ::) .. Imagine my surprise when my favourite source of saucy video clips wouldn't let me log in! Instead of their welcome screen, I got a message basically saying "Due to new Australian laws this site is not available from this IP address" and I got a re-direct to the Google search page!
This is not a good sign! What the hell are these new laws? Anybody got any ideas?

Bugger, dude! :angry1: :angry1:

Current Internet censorship law stuffs, straight from the gov sites.

A good discussion about said laws. Although not exactly unbiased, has good points.

This was slashdot'ed back in 1999, yet we didn't know too much about it. I wonder why they didn't spend as much money advertising these changes as they did advertising the new Work Choices? Hmm?

And there's more here. Strangely enough, I found out about this from this blog, the Jan 21 entry (couldn't link directly).

Hugh Hefner said it best about censorship when he described it as "the ultimate insult to the intelligence of adults".

Why should a bunch of god-bothering clergymen and other assorted wowsers tell anyone what they can and cannot view/read/perve on? The government should have bigger fish to fry than this.

2008? - 1984!

Thanks for the feedback Mac and Lone Road. The info on your links is very disturbing! I haven't had a good look yet, but it doesn't seem easy to "opt-out" of the new laws clean-feed requirements. Certainly nobody ever asked me what I wanted! :angry1::angry1:

The current "simple" workaround is to run through a proxy server in another country.

These are relatively simple to set up (or so I hear), moreso if you're a Linux user. I've yet to encounter a site that I wanted to look at that was blocked, except for statracker (for seeing how many people visit my site(s)). For some reason, I've never been able to access that one...
