Cash option fading

Free ATMs definitely harder to find, especially since the ANZ units were replaced by ATMx. I'm not a Westpac customer, but the Westpac units seem to be the most plentiful these days. Inevitably, I will keep a mental note of the most convenient ATM located on the way to the AMP I am visiting.

Westpac are closing branches and ATMs, especially if you need to deposit cash. Very often I had to drive a few extra miles for such service.

Actually I hadn’t noticed that, my usual atm is still there. Interesting topic though - in the future will we have to be tracked in all our purchases?

Thankfully though ANZ Customers still get free transactions using the ATMx machines.

I am guessing we will be loading money into wechat and using this method to pay?!
Or someone will come up with an untraceable way to pay that is not crypocurrency.

Reckon the govt wants to eventually eliminate the cash industry. They tried to introduce the Currency Bill 2019 to ban cash payments over $10,000 and imposed two-year jail sentences on people evading the ban. It did not go thru.

If we eventually go cashless then it will affect both punters and WL/provider. The providers will have to either buy card machines or find another way for the punter to pay.

Lately I have bookings and leave the atm as the last thing when I am driving to her place. Its been annoying to find an atm that is free and working. I don't like going to the atm too early in case there is a cancellation/ghosting.

They would lo love to remove cash for sure. One big problem is systems for down often at retail stores etc. so they can only accept cash...

Hope it stays forever 🙏

Has anyone used a Precinct ATM? This brand is replacing many of the Westpac ATMs. Does it charge a fee for Westpac cards?
I think I may need to open a punting account with ANZ to take advantage of ATMx machines.

Alot of my clients pay card for convenience but they do get a 2% surcharge (the surcharge is with the terminal provider) I've ensured what comes up on their statement isnt obvious. Those that want to remain annon pay cash either from the ATM or some get cash out from the supermarkets.
I offer PAY ID however only for trusted clients and never first time clients due to the discretion side (accounts names are visible and I've had people put horrible descriptions which can flag with the bank) and finally beem which is awesome as it's so discrete and only uses usernames.

Call me old fashioned.....Which I guess I am, but cash always for me. Why complicate something as enjoyable as time with a beautiful woman. The Govt will continue to try to make us a cashless society but it will never succeed. I loved my first pay as a young worker, real money in an envelope. Folding money will never go out of style and it has an allure that electronic transfers never will. Oh and no hacker, no matter how talented will ever know where my cash went :-)

Your worth the 2% surcharge :)

Every petrol station has an ATM. Some financial institutions will repay you the surcharge/fee, for example ING
Sadly not in rural or regional areas. We rely on Australia Post Offices to deposit and withdraw cash. Even some country pubs don't have ATM machines. One could drive over half an hour to find an ATM machine

Cashless systems.
Yep . Government corruption at its best.
Control control control. It is all about control. We elect this scum hoping that these fuckwits will do the right thing . .but they have there own agendas.
Fuck over as many people as they can before getting kicked out of office.
We see it every election. Lie after lie . Yet it is the same thing .we vote this trash in. Why do we do it . Oh I forgot we have a two party system with a few independent,s . Government corruption at its best. In a few years we will be bar coded and Micro chipped like a dog . Yes sir no sir will be our lot . No cash No hope. And No fucking wonder . Let's vote for daylight savings again after 4 referendum,s saying No.
I can guarantee you that we will never have another vote on Gay marriage. Nope.
Government sponsored corruption.

I try to pay for as much as I can with cash. Purely because I refuse to succumb to a cashless society. Even at the beginning of the pandemic. when shows were refusing to take cash. I would point out that it was legal tender. PayID can be reversed so not a safe payment to accept. Living in a rural community, I do most of my banking at the Post Office. Even our banks half hour drive away are short staff. So people need to ring before driving over to make sure they are open. When I am working in this industry and my other work. Cash is not such an issue. But I have been caught a couple of times where the ATM was out of service. And recently had an ATM go out of service mid-transaction. What a nightmare that was, as banks don't, manage their own machines. I had to dispute it and wait for the company to go out and balance the machine. Having an emergency cash supply in a safe, private place is imperative in our current times. Plus the additional privacy it gives you

If you are in a flash area maybe... allvthe ones around me in the east have been removed... I asked at one of the petrol stations and they said the lease was too much to keep it... so they are charging 2.50 to people to get money and then the business owner to have the machine... no wonder we are screwed.... I will stick to the post office...

Grab a few credit card gift cards from woolies or coles or the fuel station..
So my bank statement now shows that I use a heap of fuel and food shopping... not extras hehehe

Welcome to the "World Economic Forums" wet dream.

AKA a cashless world where you pay with a pure digital currency which you can easily be tracked with.

You will own nothing and be happy, you will not have any privacy and be happy, you will eat the bugs and Live in your pod and You will be Happy.

I’m quite the opposite. Punting is the only thing I use cash for. Everything else I prefer cashless. And the tracking and tracing doesn’t bother me that much, probably because there is no one in my life trying to check my bank transactions

Do the gift cards appear as a cash transaction on the statement on top of the shopping?

Nope... its just another product.
so the only thing that appears on your statement is... Coles $XXXX etc
You could get them from a fuel station... you just have to explain the excess fuel you have used.. hehehe

Problem is that private ladies tend not to accept credit cards. Also, for some reason not all eftpos machines work with them (I'm looking at you South Sun!!!) and when they do, you often get slugged with a surcharge. Could be handy for paying for an STI test through one of the online services.

Anyone else had issues at other venues with Visa Gift Cards?
