Carbon footprint and sex industry....never really thought about it.

Sex might be on top of the list when it comes to your favourite recreational activity. However, thinking about environmental challenges in general and what can be changed to reduce the carbon footprint sex is usually not on the list at all.

According to the UN Population Fund around 10 billion latex condoms are manufactured each year and disposed on landfills.....that is an aweful lot of condoms....... 🤔Most condoms are made from synthetic latex, additives and chemicals which can'tbe recycled. They don't break down and are - like most synthetics - a danger to wild life .
There are alternatives but either they only partially break down and still having an impact on the environment or they are made out of sheep skin - fully biodegradable - but don't offer protection from STDs

There are organic and vegan condoms on the market. Apparently they are ultra thin, smooth feeling but break easy.
I don't think they would be suited for SWs.

Guess the condom industry still has a bit or research to do to produce a carbon friendly, biodegradable, SW fit condom..

Or someone could find a way to recycle them........ :bumdance:

My bin is full of soft plastics that are going to landfill I've noticed. Same scenario as condoms sort of. Soft plastics can be made into stuff though. I think this topic will only give you a headache Rochelle and might be worth just dismissing the thought.

You ever been to a large company when they are dumping things out... and I am not talking office one either..

out of interest, if you wear a condom properly, and remove if without any contact , how would the STD be given to the person wearing the condom ( a barrier between skin) ? . Also, what happens to condoms that are flushed down the toilet? id imagine thousands are every day , people dont go looking for the bin and are usually on the loo when taking it off

😂I agree - it won't give me headaches or sleepless nights. The fight against plastic is a losing battle anyway.
Somehow when I thought "plastic" condoms were never included. 🤷‍♀️

You might want to read blogger Magnum's hysterical take on green (or in this case pink) energy relating to this subject. His mate George has come up with a possible solution (and I make this statement tongue in cheek).
