Can you switch from a work personality to your real personality?

Do most people feel like they are a whole heap of different people piled into one body? Or is it those who only feel like this because they have always disguised their real nature or personality's?
So for a WL I guess an example would be that she's not just a WL she's a career woman and a dancer and a mum and a musician and a whole lot more etc....do we just adapt to flick these switches on and off in order to maintain life balance??

I ask this because I can find it so easy just to switch off and be a completely fake person and it doesn't feel like a lie, it feels completely real. Im still me, same everything, a switch has just been flicked?....

In regard to sex, Its just as easy and there is no conscience to follow....Im just curious is all :)
 
Absolutely. All the time.

As a married punter I understand exactly what you are saying.

But switching from one persona to the other is not always easy. Sometimes feelings of guilt and shame creep into one and at times desire and lust for the forbidden creep into the other. But I am getting better at compartmentalising the two worlds.
 
Yes. I think we all play different roles in different situations, some are just more different than others. To be honest, I don't know if there is just one 'real me'. I guess the one my family knows might come closest, but even there my adult self is quite different to the boy who grew up with them and they would be (thankfully) oblivious to the present dirty old man in training. Maybe it helps if you're a Gemini. :smuggrin:

However, my core values remain constant and my behaviour towards others is no different. Except on this forum, of course, where my naughty little boy roams free until h/p or someone else reigns him in. :D
 
Bella Rose , my take on this is. You may well have several personas , the outward projection of your self , the girlfriend the working lady the daughter
But on the inside is your personality and in a healthy psyche that is your constant that is, you. That's your personality
 
I suppose one way of looking at it is that each persona is just a different aspect of you. None is more or less the real you. They are just parts of the whole. Individually and/or together they make up you.

You may just like some personas more than others and therefore consider one to be the preferable one and therefore the real you.

Well in reading all this....its quite relieving. I'm obviously not alone! I guess it's just the frustration of being SO self aware that it makes it quite difficult to determine this without an outside view. I have this now so thank you and again axeman (wiseman) lol What you wrote definitely resonated with me and I guess it now just up to me to manage and balance it all without overthinking everything!

We all have a bunch of different personalities inside us. This is because we have a variety of different aspects to our lives.

If you never went out, but stayed at home forever, then you may have only one personality, but as soon as you go to work, then the boss expects you to be efficient, and have initiative, and give him/her good value for your wages.

Then you meet someone and they ask you out, and you believe that you have to be someone else, not Homebody or Allbusiness, because you want to impress that person.

Your brother or sister or neighbour asks out to the footy, and you go along, then you have to be somebody else, because if you remain Homebody or Allbusiness, or Sexysally, then nobody will find you interesting and speak to you.

Then you have to do the shopping, and being Homebody, or Allbusiness, or Sexysally or Footyfan will not work - nobody in the supermarket cares who you barrack for - so you have to be Shoppingsally.

Then ....... you get the drift !

But they are all part of you - even if you are faking it (Workingsally), or just pretending to please a friend (Accommodatingsally), there will be much of you in every different role you play/face you show.

Most of us can pick up or drop off a role as our interests change (new friend interested in basketball, not footy; or end of one career (WL), and start of another (Uni graduate - engineer).

You're only in trouble if you start to blend the roles when they need to be kept apart, or when you stop realising that they are all roles, but still part of you.

I find that I'm so adaptable with people that I meet, that I sometimes wonder who the real me is. I find whether i'm seeing a w/l or in a relationship, I can just adapt to the person and needs of the relationship although I won't cross any of my boundaries although I have pushed them a few times. It's why I have to choose my relationships as carefully as I choose the w/l I see.

I used to work at a peep show where I needed to be ‘Belle’ or I couldn’t work. If I was at work and everything was going well and I received a text from a family member/friend/partner regarding a personal issue and I switched back to ‘home me’ then I would find it really really difficult to continue working if I couldn’t get back into ‘Belle’ 😭

Well probably not what you are looking for. But I do have a personality for when I work one with my family and friends and sometimes they mix together. I tend to separate work from personal life even though I'm not a SW.
I was diagnosed some years back with anxiety and depression, and I developed a stronger facade to show I was/am fine when I'm not. But I do believe we all have different personalities and we show them depending on how we feel with the people we're with.
 
There was a WL (still around so can't reveal) who dropped her mask and revealed quite a nasty side. A bit hysterical and maybe a bit unhinged. A shame but we're all different. But the sex was good but I still gave her the flick coz I don't need that sort of shit in my life.

I know what you mean. I got personally involved with one and she turned out to be an alcoholic and compulsive gambler.

When we first met, she was a beautiful soul who understood my needs sexually.

Bashed me a couple of times and also held a knife to my thtoat.

I think the scary qu is " which one is the REAL you ? " and, " is the world ready for real me ?"
I envy those who are 2 faced .. having 5 is a real struggle.

this is still a favorite of mine .. " you reality is whatever you imagine it to be "
 
I imagine we are all like individual islands with inner characters that interact create our whole being. Some have more some less dependent on the richness of the tapestry of their origins.
What we let others see of our inner selves is down to choices and circumstances.
 
Of course punters have different fronts - we may not 'put them on', but we have them nonetheless.

In 2015 I posted : 'We all have a bunch of different personalities inside us. This is because we have a variety of different aspects to our lives.'

I stand by it.
