Can depression be lifelong?

Depression is lifelong. What isn't lifelong is being debilitated by it. Medication may work for some, but not for others. One style of counselling may work for one, and not another.

I've had a few episodes over the years, including a decent length of time within a rather toxic relationship, and I managed to find a really good psychologist who helped me develop strategies to reduce the thoughts and feelings that drove my mindset in those periods.

I'm nearly 9 years free of relying on medication to flatten out the peaks and troughs, and have recently seen signs of it in someone I really love. That long journey has started, and I'm really proud of them for taking those first steps to help themselves.
I can feel how hard you’ve worked to get through those dark times, and that strength is truly powerful.

Well I am one of those problem people you hear about backstabbed all the time girls say they love you and then run off with the nerdy mummy's boy can't ever find a dance partner etc when a policeman explained to me there is a thing called atmosphere vrs behaviour and if a person moves to a different atmosphere things usually get better like a change of football club.
Like pretty woman movie go out try on some new clothes you don't have to buy them go see a movie or even go to a bar and with the help of the bar person invent your own cocktail or spend the afternoon in the library listening to music or go fishing.
There are groups of people whether they be carlton or Collingwood or part of a gay church group get the jollies putting people down don't let them win figure out who's causing the issues and get rid of them and there family and move on there are some great people out there plenty of good places to enjoy and explore.
Pills make you very unwell new day new atmosphere new friends get out there get refreshed and hydrated a change is as good as a holiday.

You’ve been hurt where you should’ve been held, but you're still standing, still shining.
Leave their shadows behind; the world is wide, and your light belongs somewhere true.

Ive had depression my whole life say from 11 to 36 years old. I can be happier but never happy, ive tried everything- from eating, lifestyle, exercise, 100% sobriety, meditation, medication, bineral beats.. ect- it all helps but that dark heavy sadness exhaustion feeling of hurry up and be over life never ever leaves.
It’s heartbreaking to carry that kind of weight for so long to keep fighting for light when it never fully reaches you. You’ve shown incredible strength just by surviving every day with a pain that deep.

There may be more types but from what I know there’s clinical depression and environmental depression.
Everyone gets environmental depression. Clinical depression is not something that just goes away its a physical feeling, not just a passing negative thought when life isnt that’s great I can confidently say I have everything everyone would want and do you think that changes the depression? no not at all because it doesn’t matter about environmental factors
depression is utterly brutal. It drains colour from life, turns simple moments into uphill battles, and makes hope feel like a language you forgot how to speak. Depression is shit. And surviving it makes you fierce.

I have experienced two separate episodes of depression that lasted 4-5 years with a period of feeling normal in between for about 6 years. During both depressive episodes, I was on antidepressants and got regular counselling. I had plenty of suicidal thoughts and “plans” and two unsuccessful actual attempts. Think about it as a health issue. Get to a GP, get a mental health plan and do your best to deal with this health issue. Avoid numbing yourself with alcohol or drugs, as they will make things worse in the long term. Depression need not last forever. There is light at the end of the tunnel, I’m living proof of that.
Your journey through such deep pain and struggle shows an incredible strength that many could never imagine. Your story is a beacon of hope for others, proving that even after the longest winters, healing and light can emerge.
