Better Sex Through Vasectomies

My husband, Ian, chose to have a vasectomy three years after we were married, when he was 35. Ian was worried about my health; I was getting infections from the contraceptive jelly and we didn't like the side effects of the pill. I started avoiding putting my diaphragm in before bed, wanting to avoid unnecessary exposure to the chemicals in the jelly if we didn't end up having sex. Unfortunately, not having birth control in every night limited our spontaneity. All this had a deleterious effect on our lovemaking.

Since we knew that we only wanted children through adoption, vasectomy seemed like a great option: sex anywhere, anytime without worrying about pregnancy, and no more of the birth control chemicals I had been taking for 24 years.

Women around the world take most of the responsibility for birth control in a relationship, probably since we are the ones most affected by pregnancy and children. Even with all the liberated, wonderful men with whom I have been in love, none offered to share in the cost of my contraceptives. I don't recall my boyfriends making sure there was enough jelly and sponges at hand. I never got a reminder to take my pill, and none of them had any idea of my cycle. Even in my teens when most of my lovers were older than I, it was assumed that I would take the lion's share of the responsibility. "Is your diaphragm in?" was the most involved most of them got.

When it comes to permanent birth control such as a tubal ligation for women or a vasectomy for men, women again bear much more of the burden. A vasectomy is a 45-minute procedure usually performed in a doctor's office with local anesthesia, while a tubal ligation must be done in a hospital with the patient totally under. Vasectomies are cheaper, have fewer complications and a faster recovery time, but there are five times more tubal ligations than vasectomies performed each year worldwide. Even in the United States, women are sterilized much more often than men.

Men are less apt to have a vasectomy because they are generally more resistant to medical procedures, especially those involving their reproductive organs. There is also the myth that they will lose testosterone, and thus sexual function or desire. Some think they will lose their ejaculate, even though they simply lose sperm, not semen. I believe that a strong factor is also a biological one: men feel they give up what it means to be male when they can no longer procreate at will.

Well, take it from me, my husband is still sexy, horny and manly seven years after his vasectomy. He has the same amount of semen, but now it won't get me pregnant. Our sex life became even less inhibited when we didn't have to think about birth control. Studies show that the sex lives of many couples improve after a vasectomy due to lack of worry about pregnancy and the ability to be spontaneous.

I am grateful that Ian is the kind of man who took control of the birth control in our partnership, making it healthier for me and sexier for both of us.

Most tubal ligations are done after child birth while the mother is still in hospital, and with the rise in popularity of C-sections this type of procedure is even easier to perform.
Although i agree vasectomy's are easier and quicker, alot of the time it too involves the patient to be put under ( mine took about a hour to perform .. but 7 hours waiting for the theatre to be ready ) it all depends on the doctor.
The bulk of vasectomy's are free as well as long as you have a doctors referal, it is also free to have a reversal but any subsequent procedures are at your cost, well in WA they are anyway :D.
also the 3 - 7 days of not being able to work as most employers wont let people work after surgery for fear of infection and hence compo puts alot of males off.
Now that isnt to say that males shouldn't bear a larger responsibility when it comes to protection in the sack, and from my experience alot of the time one or both parties are either too tipsy or drunk to think/care about protection, luckily I've always worn condoms and have had no problems with that, especially as today there are hundreds of different types on the market.
I cant say our sex life has improved because of the vasectomy as we have always had about the same amount before and after, but the worry about accidents are obviously lessened due to the fact I'am now 99.9% sterilised.

I was neutered about 10 years back. Done after work on a Friday, took about 1 hour was not out to it. No pain ,swelling or anything else that i was told i could expect. Back to work Monday no problems and I'm a brickie so not a easy job. A little of the subject though. The sex did get better because there was no worry about pregnancy. It did sting a little the first couple of times after the procedure when i come but well worth it after a month or so with no sex.

I had a vasectomy 7 years ago and my nuts still ache. Most of the time it's quite dull so I don't notice it when I am busy. I can't remember the exact figure but I think the doc warned that 3-5 % of men can have side effects which doesn't help you when you're one of the minority. Also the sensation of orgasm was noticeably different for me and it took me about a year for my brain to forget about anticipating sensations from my balls. Since I don't want to father any more children I would still do it again but there was a cost!

I had mine done at the Ballajurra medical centre quite a few years back,
The doctor was aged near retirement,
the procedure was done a 0700 hours in the morning with just the elderly doctor and myself present.
He gave me an injection in both sides of the scrotum at the base of the penis.
after a while he commenced cutting and tugging on the tubes on the left side,
rough but nothing I could not handle,
as he tugged on the chords I felt as if were my feet that they were attached to.
terrible smell as he fused the ends of the chords / tubes
when he started on the right side the pain was incredible
as the anesthetic had not taken.
I grimaced in pain mentioning that I could feel it,
he said No way and proceeded with the operation.
I felt every thing from the cutting of the scrotum to the chords being pulled and burnt,
bloody shocking .
I still sweat thinking / remembering this event.

however I still think it better for the man than the woman.

anytime some one asks me I tell them of the Ballajurra butcher and recommend being put under for the op

Not quite,

took it easy for the rest of the day
then back to work which involved quite a bit of bouncy driving,
made things uncomfortable.

however the most discomfort was the hair on the shaven sack growing back,
ocean swimming did help thou :)
