WE all voted for Donald, and we don;t care about any other nation other than the USA, you all can go get *********** ... Well they voted for him. Some interesting parallels here. Trump is pretty much demanding Greenland. Twisting recent history in the Ukraine. Hmm maybe there is some substance in the Musk salute? Id be very happy if we dumped the Sub contract and scrapped our treaty which are clearly worthless and cancelled our now non existant free trade agreement. We are meaningless to the USA and need to understand they will never go to war against China if we are invaded. Ok rant over lol
I agree AUKUS was a grandstanding brain fart. $500B for what and when. I will say this as it's no secret now but I did consulting work on the Collins class sub's and they were/are a disaster. Lucky to have one combat ready on any given day. The US would never have come to our aid if China invaded. They pride themselves on winning WW2 but have lost every other conflict since. Australia needs to build its airforce and ground attack capability quickly. 500B is a good start. The US is not our protector we are.

As for invading Australia, good luck with that, most of our wildlife are a good defence....

I was just thinking the same about all the wars they have lost despite superior technology. Interesting about the Collins. My late father worked on weapons systems on the Oberons out of Cockatoo Island. I was also asked to consult on financing an underwater sonic array to meaure how loud the Collins were but that was maybe 15 years ago. Apparently they are VERY loud.

They are! And the men and women who crew them are brave people. I've been on them and they are tiny by comparison to nuke subs. The Chinese government plays the long game. They are great strategists, and have zero care for their own people when it comes to their political ambitions. They do know that the biggest threat to their power comes from disenchanted Chinese people, how do you keep them happy? You give them hope. And very soon that hope will need to come from conquest as they are running out of govt funded ways to keep the standard of living rising.
