A couple I know who don't intend to have children have decided to move closer to the city from the hills. They're very interested in this house and have no idea what to offer on it. I've guess $800k and people have laughed at me and said more but I doubt it. Then again, given Perth's real estate insanity. I'm more a hills guessing expert.

I would call the agent he will give a ball park figure also they can search what has sold in the area recently and that gives the prices.

Real estate agent told the couple he can't give an accurate figure because there are so few properties coming on the market and few have been sold recently enough to give an accurate answer. They also answered the market's so crazy now, no one knows for sure. I've already told the couple to forget about it and resign themselves to maybe a flat or townhouse in a mid-distance suburb near a train line.

Then again, I can understand their eagerness. It's a cute little place admittedly.

I guess it's preferrable to have this problem than being homeless.













Except at this rate, a lot of cashed up people could end up being homeless with so few properties to rent OR buy.

I'm sorry mate but if you're in to process to buy a house in Perth for upto or over $1mil, you're nowhere near a battler. A majority of people in Perth could not even think to afford something like that.

The house has got an "under offer" sticker on it. The couple is dejected. Welcome to the pain of home hunting... Until your offer is accepted and you move in, it's best not to get emotionally involved when hoping to buy a house.

Let's not leave out the Asians, always good value for scapegoat material. And accountants for recommending negative gearing. And their Porsches which only drive in reverse for being negatively geared. And then the human race for procreating. Ah fuck it! Let's just blame the real estate agents and god. It's all johnmatilda's fault. And Langtrees for charging $500 per hour. If they charged $50, we'd have more money to buy houses. Fuck it even more, let's blame everyone including those wankers in the mirrors the world over.

Nothing is going to change until negative gearing and capital gains are changed. And that's not going to happen because the country would collapse. We are in this ever increasing bubble were the younger generations are going to be sapped of their earnings for the rest of their lives without permanent housing and a new class of landlords are emerging. Some people are spending 50% of their income on rent in this country. The only thing that can fix this is radical change but no one wants to be the one that tanked the country to save its future.

That may be the case but I can't help looking at our parents too. Many of them stayed with their parents until they could save a deposit. If you're going to move out and expect to save money then we're kidding ourselves.

If you meet a significant other and you want to root, save up for the odd holiday away, rent a hotel, motel backseat of the car but if the goal's to have a house, there's nothing like the landlord of mum and and dad or mum or dad depending on divorce arrangements. This isn't a one solution fits all but it's a significant one though.

It'll be a win-win contributing their rent and you saving money. Many people have spent winter in the family garage with a door ajar and a kerosene heater for company.
