AMP raid 18th February

Anyone see first hand the police visa check on AMP’s today?
Apparently 15-20 shops raided and some people taken into custody.
If true......Just seeing if your favourite masseuse is still around or doing extra shifts.

Double checked and the police were around the usual spots of Osborne Park, Cannington, etc, a couple of girls taken into custody because of breaches of their visa.
In case they come knocking..... Make sure your masseuse remembers to lock the door to buy you some time if needed.

what would you guys do if you were having a massage and police knocked on the door? im curious cause i would not know what to do

My knowledge is yes illegal workers and tax evasion.

Id say authorities have found much more than they bargained.

Still a bit dubious about this as:

1/ Immigration/Border Force do Visa Checks with some support of the Australian Federal Police as its a Federal Offence being broken.
2/ As its still University holidays etc any girls on student visa's can work as many hours as they like - no restrictions on hours worked. The 20hrs per week rule applies when University/TAFE restarts - ECU starts 22nd Feb/Curtin 1st week in March.
3/ Immigration would have got a better outcome of visa offences once Uni/TAFE starts back - ie girls working more than 20hrs a week and dodgy massage places trying to fiddle the books to cover this.

Still a bit dubious about this as:

Was speaking to one of the girls @ 196 Main St Ozzy Park earlier and she said that they did have a visit from the Police last Thursday (whether that was actually Immigration/Police/Feds??)

Has anyone experienced one of these raids in person??
One would think that along with Visa/Tax violations that are going on, they would also be wanting to bust the other illegal activities

So just wondering what the procedure would be?
Do they walk in and expect everyone out of the rooms straight away?
Because if it was a legit massage, then this would not be an issue, the lady would be fully dressed and the customer has a excuse for being naked
But if you were in the middle of "Extras" then the lady is either going to need some time to get dressed or be walking out wrapped a towel
For me personally, I think the knock on the door followed by "This is the Police, open up" would quickly take care of any erection and signs of other services being offered LOL but it would be pretty clear what was going on when you both walk out naked

Based on the conversation i had, it seems the purpose was to check for breach of visas.. students on holidays shouldn't be affected as they still have work rights. I would say the targets are those on visitor visa or some bridging visa with no working rights.

My sister in law used to do these as she was part of the Australian Crime Commission which is now part of Border Force which encompasses Customs/Immigration and the Feds. Unless it was a raid on a farm, the visits were quite discrete especially if other businesses are nearby. Two or three officers in plain clothes would go in and ask to see the rosters, check the passports/visas of those on the rosters to see if they matched. If there are any discrepancies then they start to take action by taking people into custody.

Cheers sircurious, thought that would be the case
I guess Immigration haven't got the powers to do anything regarding failing to pay Taxes or even the Prostitution Act. And it probably wouldn't be a simple thing to get all the different departments working together

Prostitution is a state law as different states have different rules & regulations. Tax inspectors sometimes come along on the visit but those people who work in a cash industry usually get their 'just deserts' when they try and apply for a permanent resident visa. That's where they get caught out, especially if they have applied for an ABN but not used it and also haven't filed a tax return at all.

Usually ATO is involved and they do work together on these things.
