Age verification & the immediate rise of VPNs

Hilariously I heard a news article about the new laws passed that now require age verification on all adult sites as well as social media ... swept in by the Govt without any fanfare. It then follows that the highest number of VPN's purchased & setup across the country happened almost immediately !

We are not the first country to ask for age verification to access adult sites - it's been happening in Germany, UK and several US states. Canada looks likely to follow very soon.

Porn won't be an issue, there will always be ways around it - eg unauthorised sites, VPNs to obscure countries, torrenting etc.

The bigger impact might come from this web reaching advertising platforms like E&B, Locanto, or even LTs! Some might be happy to create throwaway accounts to register but tying their own ID to that account will likely be a bridge too far. It will hurt WLs more than punters IMO

Can you legally gamble online without verifying you're over 18 in Australia?
Apparently so, saw an ABC report the other day that minors are responsible for about $18M per annum in gambling, although a lot of them are accessing from their parents' accounts.

The new age verification is a pain in the arse. Every time I go into X I have to do the grok selfie check before I can access anything if an adult nature. Every so often it says ready verified and gets locked in a loop.

Porn hub won’t me in at all and are not accepting any new registrations from Australia.

Might be time to get a VPN

I just bought one, and works well. You can watch other regions Netflix as well if that sweetens the deal

If you are on X having trouble accessing posts that are asking for age verification click on the User name and go to their home page and then click on “media” and it displays all their photos and videos including the ones you supposedly can’t access without age verification. Worked for me the other day seeing Sarah from Thornlie latest post. Somewhat weird but there you go.

But little Johnny can take dads credit card and get on Bet365 and get his MULTI ion this weekends round 2 AFL matches, and if his picks are up at half time and loose MONEY BACK... up to $100 of course.. and how many gambling ads do you see before every sports report on commercial TV...

Gambling all OK
PUSSY bad.... I get it that pussy is addictive and all, but without Pussy life is rather boring..

It took less than 2 weeks for the UK age verification laws to result in a mass leak through discord of 200k peoples passports and drivers licences. Insane that didn't make us think twice.

Don't buy a VPN. Plenty of free options that will meet your needs. They throttle video download speed, but if you start playing something then turn the video of it apparently keeps downloading

The silver lining of this is probably getting half the country comfortable with using VPNs.

You can also use services like nitter and xcancel to view twitter profiles and posts without an account.

Why people so paranoid about ID for porn. The intelligence already know who you are and what you do no matter what your VPN is. They know who i am and that im typing on a sex forum. So what if your doing nothing illegal.

1. 30-77% of porn usaged dropped in other nations adding laws to porn or age restrictions- meaning alot of casuals dried up.

2.it stops alot of 10-17 year olds from unrestricted access to hardcore porn just because they have a phone and 5 minutes alone.
They might spend less time wasted in the toilet now.

3.vpns did spike big time, but its not like every teen suddenly becomes a VPN power user.

If you're an adult doing nothing wrong, the ID check is annoying but trivial compared to the known harms of early porn exposure on developing brains (addiction patterns, distorted expectations, mental health links that are well-documented in psych studies). Saving even a chunk of kids from that spiral is worth adults clicking through a quick verification or taking a selfie.

let's be real: if an intelligence agency or serious law enforcement wants to know who you are and what you're doing online, they already have far better ways than scraping porn-site age-verification logs. Phone metadata, IP logs from your ISP, app telemetry, device fingerprints, payment trails. they've got it covered with or without VPNs. A basic commercial VPN doesn't make you invisible to state-level actors; it mostly just hides you from casual snoopers or geo-blocks.

So for the average person doing nothing illegal? The privacy hit from age verification is real but massively overhyped compared to everything else we're already leaking daily.

That one thing has brought down so many criminals... even if you wipe hard drives, solid state drives, iphones etc.. Metadata is always there.. which is why when the Military uses storage devices once they are finished with them they all are sent to a room with a massive magnet then securely boxed up and sent to sims metals to be turned into tiny bits of metal, as they know about metadata. so you are 100% correct there..

The deal here with VPNs is the source which is the gateway to internet just in a different physical location is a server physical or Virtual, probably virtual on a physical hardware, and that piece of infrastructure is collecting every mouse click across that VPN secure channel, the VPN itself is 100% secure by its name meaning, but the actually data going down that link is still collected every mouse click, every website visited, the length time on that site, the source and destination IP is tracked by that sites appliances eg Firewalls, and other appliances that are public facing, and for those that think otherwise need to wake up.. everything online from that very 1st :

"You Had Me at EHLO" is
a famous phrase and the title of the Microsoft Exchange Team Blog, which has been running since 2004". is still very much stored in a data retrieval system.

Those that work in IT and deal with Backup systems know this very fun fact nothing is missed..

I disagree that it is over hyped compared to what we are already leaking. It is a significant change.

Right now, ASIO, the NSA, Google, Microsoft and various others get a lot of data.

But the majority of data being collected until now is not personally identifying. The glowies know who you are. Greasy online entities can identify your device, but generally not your person. This is about linking your real ID to all of your traffic so that anybody running a service has access to your identity, not just a profile associated with a device.

The next steps are already being taken with Colorado and California pushing through laws that require identification to be associated with any installation of an operating system, as opposed to just a site with adult content.

There is also the danger here, that we have already seen materialize, of the the more organisations have you, the greater the chance of the ID data being collected being leaked to the general public.

So it isn't just the spooks, the tech bros and the porn lords with your information. Anybody who personally wishes you harm (violent exes and stalkers for example) will be able to access the ever growing collections of people's drivers licences and passports and will be able to see where you live so they can come and fuck you up.

There is one case I know of already of some woman being dead because some discord couldn't keep the IDs they were collecting properly secured which enabled some prick she was in hiding from to find out where she was living.

This is well beyond tech bros being able to see everything. These laws being introduced to improve mass surveillance, I mean protect children, already have a body count. Going further down this road is madness if safety is in anyway involved in the decisions being made and callous if the cost being paid to improve mass surveillance techniques is something the powers that be are unconcerned by.

Anyways by the end of 2030, Over 90% of the web you wont be able to tell if its real or fake with AI coming along at a very rapid pace, so really my guess is many and I mean many will get off it,.... Look at Instagram its all fake for clicks, same as all the other social media platforms, even this game everyone is doing reverse image look-ups as we all know lots of photos are well not quite the full quid..

Look at this clip below how scary is that.. just look at how fast and easy those Ai clips came about after the death of the Iranian leader, people are sick to death of the falseness of this web compared to what it was back before the so called crash that Y2K was, fast forward 26 short years and just not fake news/its now fake cat clips, fake news stories, fake actors, etc etc...

Plus the recent addition to this falseness is now the Job market... Linkedin,Indeed, seek, even recruitment sites themselves are all posting ghost (FAKE) jobs all online the internet should be renamed to the fakenet.

Even real advice is now considered fake due to the fact that people are now normalized to think its all fake, so really in a few short years time I can see people only using this tool for mapping/banking and travel and that sort of thing.. but for every thing else including porn people want a genuine human connection..

You talk about Age Verification and VPNS for what to swallow more fakeness and pay for it too..

How about this?

The government just butt the hell out?

If I want to watch porn then I will. If I dont want to then I won't.

If I dont want my kids watching porn then I will take steps to stop them doing so and manage that myself. I dont need daddy albo to do that for me.

We are a nanny state.
