Collingwood: the best side of the last two years...

Geelong: the best side of the last five years...

Hawthorn: talented but contends when fit...

West Coast: Last, last year, most improved now that the coach is coaching, great last half on the year.

So thought? Pies V My Hawks and the older Cats V Weagles....

Me, winners = My Hawks (no choice there for me there) and the Cats to end the West Coast's great year.

Forest once again thanks for getting the AFL thread going....man after my own heart!!

Pies and Hawks - hate to say it my dear but I think that Colligwood may be the gf winners this year (and it really hurts to say that)

Eagles...I wish so much they go out there...start out hard and run with it and anyting is possible at finals time....I think the cats may just get it past us!!!

Gelong are coming home strong - very good 4-6 weeks. They have managed the skilled and experinced (read older) players very well so that they are peaking right at this moment. I think they're favourites for the flag now.

I hope West Coast smash them though ... :)

I'm sure we will get over it... whomever team wins... though the Pies should win I'm still hopeful :)

Really the west coast are still the team that gets me this year How can you go from a team that were a team of limp dicks on game day to a team as hard as a porn star
once the director/coach yells action

Whatever Worsfold used it makes Viagra pale in significance

....it is interesting to note that in 1998, Brisbane finished the season last.

In 1999, they finished 3rd and played in the preliminary final only to be beaten by the Kangaroos, who won the grand final. Brisbane lost the semi final in 2000 and then won the premiership between 2001 & 2003.

Not bad for a side that had finished last in 1999.

Fudd :)

Too funny......love it!!!! Well he is pharmacist...though has anyone seen Cousins lurking around the change rooms handing out bags of lollies???

Yes and anything is possible at finals time so although cats should in all accounts win....you never know what the boys can pull out of there...pants!!

AFL have got it worked out with the finals system
Most to all of the time the top 4 paly off in the G/F(this yr top two) and it was no different this year...Geelong Vs Collingwood on G/F day and collingwood will win by 15 pnts.
Geelong will win this week by 12 pnts(to get into the G/F)
Winners are Grinners and the AFL play it well with the Draft System so teams can rebuild with concession,it would be boring as fuck if C/W won the flag every year..
Eagles in The G/F next year.
Top 8 is a American system as a token effort for finals and to make money.

Stevet the draft is designed to give every-one a fair chance at a flag As you say.
But it only works if the clubs are professional in drafting etc Otherwise Freo Richmond and Melbourne , especially the last two should be top of the wozza not still near the bottom
And Fudd Yes the Lions did very well to climb the ladder so quick But any team would if they got to pick the eyes out of another club Like they were able to with Fitzroy
Even Freo (Sorry Farmboy)

yes there is other verations in it like injuries(like freo)coaches etc playing as a TEAM and the list goes on and on and on..
many yrs ago u could BUY a team(go caltorn, lol)in the 80s..the system is a bit fairier now.. and the MIND SET'we made the finals' and many yrs ago is only a top FOUR!(less teams)the top 8 is a LOGESTICAL NIGHT MARE for the average person to work out,lol..

My team (Geelong) have shown that despite the draft, if your recruiting people can identify talent well and draft accordingly you can stay up the top
for a lot longer .... our young draft picks chosen relatively low (Menzel,Duncan,Christensen etc) compared to picks by other clubs who have proven to be not as talented are testimony to good talent identification...or
could it be luck!
As much as I would like to see Geelong get a chance for remption against Hawthorn , I believe it will be CATS V Magpies this year!
/// GO CATS!////////

AS A pies Fan You take out Thomas & Pendlebury The rest of the squad
until the grand final were a squad of to slow plodders who were lower order draft picks
Talent identification is extremely important. We also need a Freo willing to trade good players for hacks That helps

yep, you only have to look at Port Adelaide as a case in point! Geelong
destroyed them in 2007... look where they are now....talent identification
is paramount to prolonged success ... despite losing arguably the best player
in the comp and releasing some good talent in Mumford , Gamble etc we are still up there! . Sides that don't have good list management will struggle continually.....
The Cats have also not relied on topping up with duds from other clubs...
last one we got was Ottens and he is far from a dud!

Poor Maree Selwood, she has four sons who have play AFL at the top level... three of them in the Cats V Eagles match this week-end. Both the older ones are premiership players... so mum is going for the Eagles so that the baby boy can have one too... what a talented family :)

Forest If little brother snotters big brother ,do they send him straight to the tribunal
or let mum deal with him?

B

brawler

The Pies will smash the Hawks and the Cats will smash the Eagles.

The betting odds clearly indicate that the Pies and the Cats are red hot favourites to win their Preliminary Finals. The best teams of 2011 deserve to play off in the Grand Final.

Certainly the Pies and the Cat are the best of the best this year and will most likely play in the Grand Final.... but one of the best things about footy is that it is unpredictable.

That way a fan can stay interested :)
