Hi All
Since becoming a working lady, I've always wanted to do some live webcam work, hoping that when times are quiet I can use this as income generator.

Can forum members offer succinct advice on how to go about setting up such a service, best servers, (maybe I could I link to Maryanne's?), type of equipment and monthly outlay required. Also how to set up receiving payments via paypal/credit card and the like. I already have laptop and web camera but feel I may need more.

I'd welcome any advice.

Regards, Chanell

Hi Chanell,

I'm not an IT techo but from my perspective, I would do the following:
1. Set up an actual bank account, preferably one without (or minimal) fees, to enable clients to do a direct deposit. Credit cards/Paypal are fine but there are fees & costs involved.

2. Purchase an external webcam if your current webcam is built into the laptop. An external webcam allows you freedom of movement rather than jiggling a laptop to give your client a good show. As an aside, do you have a microphone??

3. Set up an MSN Messenger or Skype account to allow clients to view your show. Both are free and most people will either have one or the other.

Done.

As I said, I'm no techo, but whatever method you do adopt, just try to keep it simple given that you want to do this to augment your income (ie, its not your primary source of income).

Good luck.

Fudd :)

Hi Chanell

I have helped girls set up webcams/sites etc, I spent 5 years running porn sites that were mainly webcam based. Its easy to set up a webcam, much harder to make money at it. There is a lot involved if you want to do it properly. Easy to get 1000 blokes all watching you, trickier to get them to pay if you dont know how the industry works.

Flick me a pm if your genuinly keen and ill give you my mobile.

The big cam sites actually hire girls like yourself to be on their site...... well I don't think they "hire" you, but if you're interested I believe all you need is the cam & then they'll hook you up in their directory/servers & then they just pay you a % cut.

If you didn't wanna do that & prefer to go it yourself then LMK if you need a website done up for it; that's what I do for a living :)

Paypal does not handle transactions for services - only where physical goods change hands or where no return is anticipated (such as making a donation). You won't find any porn sites using Paypal (except where they are selling physical goods like dvd's or adult toys).

Most sites use ccBill which is specifically set up to handle finances for adult sites.

If you are looking at setting up your own site, then get hosting via ExMasters.com - they are dedicated adult site hosts. If you read the Terms and Conditions of most hosts (and all Australian hosts) they say that they do not host sites of an adult nature (actually, what'll happen is that they'll accept your money and set up the site, but once it starts using resources they'll shut it don or suspend it).

If you are setting up your own site with just you, then you'll probably get less results as you won't be available 24/7 - you'll get people who come looking for you but you won't be on at that time so they'll go elsewhere.

If you are starting out, then your best bet is as cyphix says - sign up with an existing site and work for them for a while to see how it goes before investing a lot of cash in setting up your own site.

That's not true..... Paypal DO handle transactions for services. I pay & receive money via Paypal for services, when you pay they even have a selection where you pick what the payment is for & "Services" is one of the options.

My apologies, I stand corrected. Or sit. You know. They must have changed their T&C's since I last checked - which I admit was a few years ago now.

Thanks for correcting me.
