I do know people who have done it for both medical and dental, and things have worked out OK for them. Would I do it? Probably.

Dental work
i have met people who did the dental thing overseas and they swear by it . its cheaper and you get a holiday all in 1 for less cost of the procedure. not sure about the bar girls , if they were included . :)

Yes. Heaps of my friends have had their boobs done and veneers etc done in Thailand, the doctors have the same qualifications and it can be done at a third of the price.
In fact one of my girlfriends was adamant she wouldn't go overseas for her full facial reconstruction and boob job , then her doctor here in Perth became ill and they ended up having a doctor from Thailand do the procedures :p

I think as long as you do your research and understand that there is risks in either option (here or OS)

As for procedures that Australia doesn't offer eg stem cell treatments, MMJ for epilepsy and autism sufferers, then I am all for it, as long as the patient gives 100% informed consent :)

"I think as long as you do your research and understand that there is risks in either option (here or OS)"

That's the key. There are horror stories about things going wrong both overseas and in supposed "top shelf" hospitals right at home. So do the research if you're planning something like this.

I'd love to get my teeth fixed but I'd only do it once there was enough spare money that everything else was covered first.

One of the girls at work had some (!!) dental problems fixed in thailand.

26k in Perth and only 7k in Thailand including flights and accom.

18months on she's had no issues and happier than ever.

Seems like this question is about choosing between procedures in Australia or cheaper SE Asia, but here's another angle. The Canadian government almost always approves new, cutting-edge medical procedures years before the US government does. So, lots of Americans go to Canada for the newest treatments. But still, lots of Americans wouldn't consider a procedure that wasn't approved by the US FDA.

LASIK eye surgery is the best example I can think of. LASIK was approved and available in Canada over 10 years before it was in the US. The US government is just too conservative.

On an individual level, it's all about risk tolerance. Or it could be about grasping for straws -- if someone is facing death, the risks of a new procedure don't seem such a big deal.

Honestly - I would go OS for everything - I have had my boobies done in Thailand and i can say that they are 100% better (if you do you research).Apart from being cheaper, i found medical staff easier to deal with, everything a lot cleaner and a better knowledge of the procedure being done. My doctor - did 10 great enhancements in 1 day, 5 days a week. In Australia they do maybe 2/3 a week. Which obviously means they have less experience. Friends and other working girls have had both minor and major issues with breast implants in Australia - i have had my boobies a year today and am still so impressed - they are that good customers always ask me of they are real or fake! Other gels too! If you do your research on overseas doctors you will find 80% are a lot better than AUS doctors. Considering i work in the health profession as well - i would completely recommend overseas!

As some of you know, I just came back from Thailand where I got thorough dental treatment. It wasn't boob job! -)) I was so impressed with facilities, with service that they provide. Very efficient, clean, expertise better than in Australia. Straight away given options on cosmetic cheap procedures or thorough and expensive. All x-rays being done in 10 minutes. General cleaning for teeth $ 40 and consultation $ 40. All specialists in one place, all examination quick and efficient. In Perth I was paying $ 300 for 15 minutes chit chat to dentist visit without x rays. Price in Bangkok was cheaper than in Australia but definitely not cheap as I was quoted on-line. I had to pay extra $ 3 000. But I didn't mind because it was serious surgery and more complicated than I thought initially. Out of curiosity I went to other place as Bangkok hospital ( European standards at Thai price) to check out what other procedures they good at.....
People fly over from all around the world to get treatments, on eyes, vision, spinal problems, heart surgeries, stomach etc.. I just wanted to say everyone, I definitely can recommend hospitals over in Thailand. I asked Thai girls at work, how is it possible that they hospitals and medical assistance so good, and when it comes to dentistry its better than in Australia. They said , all medical services watched closely by King that's why its so good and thorough.. Its national pride. If anyone got questions, you can ask me here or write your stories. Cheers.

I researched for a long time in Australia, and I found that 1) doctors were arrogant 2) i only liked about 70% of their work 3) they didn't have much experience 4) EVERYONE of my girlfriends who had had them done by different surgeons had issues (major and minor) 5) no one could give me a straight answer.

In Thailand my doctor (who i researched for a good few months) - has 15 years experience, does 5-8 jobs a DAY for 5 days a week, has NO bad reviews online, is a lovely guy, speaks perfect english (even understood my slang), and was comforting.

I said to him :
1- NO STRIPPER BOLT ONS
2- ATLEAST A D CUP
3- AS NATURAL AS POSSIBLE

And i got all 3 things(and so many people do not believe me that they are fake, they think they are real).

I could not be happier, the price was no issue for me i just wanted a great job - and i certainly got that(for a hell of a lot cheaper than AUS).

I did my research for 6 month before I went over there. Everyone spoke fluent English. By the way, you can get insurance now as well. In my case, there were 3 hospitals with same name. So, I was searching for doctor with best reviews. Often its not about hospital, its about name of doctor. So in your case as well, whoever looking in right place for right person would always find it!-)
