Any fashion gurus want to help me get dressed???
I usually live in trackie pants and a simple T-shirt and I`m quite happy with that but I`m going to an event where I need to dress up that little bit more...

The event is a cocktail evening but it`s more mid afternoon.
Since I have zero fashion sense is anybody willing to share theirs with me??

eg. Does it have to be dress shoes?
Do I have to wear a tie?
Do I really need to wear a jacket and if so what type??

  • Does it have to be dress shoes? Yes
  • Do I have to wear a tie? Yes
  • Do I really need to wear a jacket and if so what type?? Yes/Formal
Do not fear, just hire the whole outfit including socks, that what I do.
Hire/Pick up the cloths;---wear the cloths;---next day return the cloths

My two cents worth:
  • Cocktail events are formal occasions, so yes, dress shoes are expected.
  • Finding an outfit that fits is a must! Men wearing ill-fitting suits look ridiculous.
  • Think outside of the outfit. Having clean hair, fingernails, and nice clothes makes all the difference.
  • I'd suggest wearing a long-sleeved, collared shirt (in colour, with checks, or some other subtle pattern; white looks too corporate in my opinion), a black tie, black trousers, and dress shoes.
Men may not notice some of the "finer details," but ladies certainly do… :p

Hope you have a wonderful time! x

I know from when I've been a groomsman we've hired suits from ferrari formal wear in joondalup and they provide everything, inc shoes, bar undies.

I think prices range between $150-220 so not bad really.

Otherwise a nice pair of shoes ($100+), a nice shirt ($60+) and pants ($100).

Only wear a tie with a suit. You don't have to wear a jacket with a decent dress shirt if you don't. Maybe a stylish shirt and jacket over the top, unbuttoned with no tie.

If its outside, I'd rock a scarf maybe.

I think Miss Holly has nailed it.

The clothes are secondary to what is inside them and there is no point in wearing your "glad rags" if you neglect the personal grooming.

If in doubt I always wear a tie and dress shirt and if that turns out to be yoo dressy I can always slip the tie into my pocket. Jacket is optional, mostly they only end up hanging over a chair anyway.
