A stern warning to one's self!

Dear body

I'm afraid I have a beef with you. You have really let the team down. For years, we enjoyed a great relationship, and you were in good nick. Then, in the last few years, you let everything go to pot. What's with that, man?

Take, for example, weight gain.

When we- you and I, were 20 years old, I could scoff down a couple of Big macs and french fries without batting an eye. If by some quirk I gained a kilo, I'd just stop eating crap for a day and the weight would be back down next 1-2 days.

Now, 25 years on, if I skip lunch both Saturday and Sunday, and go hiking 3-5 hours both Saturday and Sunday, the scales don't move at all. But if I eat 12 slices of raisin bread over 3 days, suddenly the scales go up 1-1.5kg next day! That's just not acceptable! It's not like I'm a 160kg behemoth. I'm just 100kg. Not too hard to shed in 10-15 days, like we used to, is it?

Furthermore, my left knee is now buggered- I can't even run more than once before it's painful and I have to hobble for the next week. Not to mention my perfect vision started not being so perfect 7 months ago. I like having razor sharp sight!

So here's what I want you to do. Stop letting the team down. I'll stop eating fast food for 2 weeks. In return, I want my double chin and belly gone by the end. Furthermore, I want you to regain full use of all body parts and make them as good as new.

Got it?

Good!

Sheesh...sometimes you just have to give the body a good whack and wake it up sometimes.

Yours sincerely,

Your brain.

Fully agreed! Already laying off the fast food and eating a salad for lunch every now and then, still doesn't seem to make too much of a dent.

One of the tradeoffs we have to endure by staying alive longer than we used to.

Weight gain can be a buggerlugs and, as you have discovered, it is easier to pile it on than to take it off but all is not lost and you don't need Michelle Bridges and Commando yelling at you to get it back under control. Just cut back on the "bad" foods, (everyone knows what they are) and eat smaller portions of the good stuff. Don't starve yourself, that just slows your metabolism, and get regular moderate exercise - if you can't run, walk, it is almost as good or swim which is better still, unless you are as useless in the water as I am.

Your eyesight can be helped with glasses, they are a damn nuisance but essential if your arms are no longer long enough to read a telephone directory and if your middle and distance vision is suffering definitely get it sorted for your own safety and everyone else's safety on the road.

:laughing4:laughing4:laughing4.............priceless!!!!!!!!! And I so know what you are talking about. I think 'it' is called middle age (as the first step towards 'old age') syndrome and we will all go through it.........regardless of plastic surgery, face lifts, botox and extreme diets.
SIGH.....what to do?????? Age as disgracefully as possible ;)

I like to think I am winning the war, with my Ralking (run/walking) and my weights, another 6 kgs and I will be in the happy zone :) Mind you I am happy, I just know my health (mental and physical) and my energy levels are much better with a few kgs less hanging around.

Well here's a suggestion folks. Try it on a day off like Saturday. Apart from your morning coffee and drinking coffee, just starve all day and if you feel hungry, eat a fruit like an apple 'til your next hunger pang and eat more fruit.

The next day, I expect you'll feel great and have a ravenous appetite. And believe me, so many of us eat automatically without feeling hungry. Don't do it all the time of course.

I'm a big fan of the cross trainer 'cos it's the nearest thing to non-impact running you can get and yet burn a high number of calories.

I'd really like one of these - I've seen two in Perth but at A$4000 a pop, I think I'll wait 'til some Chinese company manufactures them! SideView01Bluefinal.gif

A lot of people mistake dehydration for hunger, as the triggers and craving are very similar in the early stages, a glass or 2 of water can do a lot to quench appetite and is really good for you too :)

Ahoy, face it, we all get older. My solution, drink more rum, it helps with all the pain
Cheers and Pass the Rum

Don't starve your self that will eat into mussel. Reduce meal size slightly, eat every 2.5 to 3.0 hours, eat good food and calorie count. Add light exercise daily and have one day a week as a free day to do what you want. Alcohol is a killer.
Hardest thing for a male is loosing the gut took me 4 years.

I actually saw a guy the other day who had a massive beer belly. What STUNNED me was that on TOP of his beer belly was a mini-beer belly. I kid you not.

I was tempted to reach out and touch it but feared being crushed by his weight!

Yours could well be hereditary but honestly, I'd leave it in the hands of the experts which you're already doing.

Just wondering if you have tried Apple Cider Vinegar. It's really good for heaps of things, metabolism, aching joints, hormone imbalances and blood pressure as well. Have a look on Google, there is heaps of information out there. Hope this helps :)
