You can’t judge a book by its cover, Cambodia

When we travel, it’s always independently of tour groups and we try and see as much country side as possible with walks and hikes etc. This also allows me to get a leave pass to have a massage after such explorations. With such limited windows of opportunities I take what is on offer close to where we might be staying. Some conclusions. Just because there is B & B (bum and boobs) on display out the front of the shop, doesn’t guarantee things will end happily. Often it’s just a roués to entice you in and the opposite also applies. Just because there is no B & B on display, doesn’t mean you won’t get offered “A free set of steak knives” for a small fee once the massage has begun!!
So it was I found myself in Phnom Penh at a “legit” looking business. The “assembly line” of mats on the floor and thin curtains that were not allowed to be fully drawn. The masseur told me to lay on my back 1st with the towel over my groin area. Different – have never started like this before – and she starts on the thighs. It’s not long before the accidental touches start happening and one thing leads to another. Once I am cleaned up, its face down for the real massage. The girl had her timings right. In the last 15 minutes or so of the hour, the boss kept finding reasons to walk down the assembly line, just to ensure that there was no funny stuff going on.
Up in Siem Reap, after 3 days of climbing over Angor Wat, I was taken in by B & B on display on the footpath. The masseur was rubbing young Percy raw and after her 2nd yawn from boredom, I told her to forget it and abandoned ship. Let’s just say that I was far from satisfied.
Sihanoukville has been touted in some quarters as Cambodia’s version of Pattaya and it might well be, but because I am tucked up in bed early in the night with my mug of cocoa and book, I don’t get to see the late night shenanigans going on, only to say that in my limited time and explorations, I only ever found legit massage shops. I am sure that they must be there, its just that I looked in the wrong places.
Still to come. Vietnam, Thailand, Laos + China
