Naughty Thoughts

What an odd occurrence. We had a person apply for a driving position with us but then turned around and said that they didn't actually have a car! Though it would be nice to have a fleet of Bentley's out the back ready to transport the ladies, that just isn't going to happen.

I wouldn't have thought that finding a reasonably stable person with a late model car would be difficult, but here we are.

It would be like me going to a salon and asking to be a hair dresser. Or anything to do with fashion (I have no idea about what looks good, I just wear what's comfortable).

Anybody else have experiences with people showing up for a job they couldn't do?

Maybe he thought you had little cars with logos like at Dominos Pizza :p

PM me some info on being a driver. I want to apply also but don't want to waste someones time if I'm not the right person for it.

I've had people show up for jobs wearing no shoes or thongs! I'm pretty casual but thongs during an interview is not on. Still I'd rather employ someone in thongs than pointy shoes :p

Another girl applied for a casual position who didn't have a resume. Not a problem since I never had a resume (or job interview either lol) but turns out mummy and daddy told her she had to get a casual job whilst she was at uni or they stop giving her "pocket money". She was 32 and just stays at uni lol.

Another bloke rocked up bent and claimed it was medicinal lol.

The other issue I come across is that younger people have these ideas that they are capable of anything etc when the reality is the complete opposite. Sometimes people are useless and need to be told so.

As for drivers, it's a hard one because decent late model cars arent cheap to run I guess. I worked out that my normal car (4wd ute) costs around $20 -$25 per 100km by the time you factor in all the costs of owning a car so being a driver in your own car not so appealing.

Oh yeah, in the IT Consulting company I worked in a decade ago, we had some people come in with next to no IT skills. I mean, these people could not answer the question on what the IPCONFIG command is for or which port SMTP uses. :)

Good thing we made everyone sit a mini-exam to weed out the total idiots. Beyond that it was a verbal interview with random questions off the top of our heads.

Lots and lots of fruit cakes on board Lone Road , why were you surprised?

What difference does it make if you have a big 4wd that as said takes mega litres of petrol or disel, which are used in some cases, than a small decent car?
I have had quiet a few ladies come to my place in there own cars which have been small but economical.

What have you got to get dropped off in some big BLING,if thats the case why not just use limo's like they do in other states. Most places charge you an extra $50 for outcalls anyhow.

Most guys wouldn't even care as long as the lady was somewhere on time..

I'm not convinced you read his post.

Yeah why is that? Because i commented on the cars instead of showing up in a pair of thongs. Yes i did read every post and entilted to an opinion.

Sorry if I misread you. Just sounded like you were commenting on the quality of the car as the topic whereas loneroad was talking about a driver applicant not having a car at all.

It's all good, yeah i understand what your saying but if your going to go for a job as a driver without a car then i think that explains itself. Sorry i didn't put that in..

Mate, that's the girls private cars and maybe that's all they can afford or justify but a buzz box getz or corolla is hardly a car a professional driver would be taking a professional worker in. Maybach might be overkill but if it was my business I wouldn't class a 2010 corolla as a professional car unless I owned a pizza place.

Even a normal commodore is still going to cost a minimum of $20 for every 100kms when you factor in all costs involved (including purchasing). Then you'd wanna work for about $30 an hour at night.. Easy to see why it's hard to find people

It is seemingly common occurance these days A local farm supplier in Gero required
a Head Storeman They had 20+ applicants One had worked as a spareparts assistant He was the highest qualified it was mainly 19-20yr olds wanting to go straight to the highest paid position without putting in any hard yards first
As usual the job was filled by putting the word out on the Q T

Some people are all front
And some just don't care
I always show up to interviews suitably dressed to the task

I don't own a late model car... but would have been keen on a drivers job
And happy to use my older comfortable sedan until the employment seemed stable enough to lease something newer

The old girls are still reliable too you know :)
And Cadillac quality has made a name for itself worldwide

Not all of our Drivers own late model cars... Some have older cars and they do the job fine, they really just need to be reliable, clean, mechanically and cosmetically sound. (i.e. no holes in mufflers, no cheeseburgers ground into the floor, no cigarette stench, etc...)
The car that's to be used also needs to have air-conditioning, no leaks, no major dents, no broken windows, the list goes on, but really it's just common sense...if your car looks, smells or goes like shit, you're not qualified to be a driver!

We had a guy apply for a drivers job a couple of months ago that didn't have a license! I was dumbfounded when I asked him (as a bit of a joke) if he had a current WA license and he replied..."Na...I lost it for drink driving about 3 months ago", I asked him "Well, how on earth are you planning on being a driver?!" He replied "Oh, it's all good, I drive all the time anyway"... I pointed out some of the legal issue's that we might have a problem with, and he told me that I should just give him a shot cause it was only another 3 months till he got it back anyway! Of course, I said that wasn't possible, he called me a 'Drama Queen' and stormed out...

I also had a lady turn up for a Nanny position once, completely drunk! She admitted to me through slurred speech, that she did have a 'bit of an issue' with alcohol, but she needed to earn some money so she could attend AA. I explained that AA is a free service, she said that she needed to catch a taxi there, I said, catch a bus, she said, she couldn't read the timetable, I said, you just want another bloody drink don't you? ....She said, "Yep!" Lol!
In hindsight, I should have hired her, it would have just been like me being there all the time! Lol! Lmao! That's not true...by the way...

I used to do a lot of recruiting and training for a contract security company operating overseas.

Had plenty of dills applying all the time, but one really stands out.

He couldn't drive a manual vehicle, couldn't go out in the sun apparently (melanoma's), hated the sand, was a complete racist bigot, couldn't speak any other language (and had a hard time with english even!) and was totally shit-scared of any of the tools of trade.

But this guy wanted me to pay him $150,000USD a year and fly him half way around the world 4 times a year. Dont think so Tim!

Ha! That would make for good advertising, if we were allowed to advertise. Wouldn't be discrete though. I can imagine people not being impressed having a vehicle like that out the front were the neighbours could see!

The other issue I come across is that younger people have these ideas that they are capable of anything etc...

I've notice that too. Too much emphasis on "not hurting self esteem" I think. But I won't open that pandoras box.

Lisa's comment about the car being decent rather than having to be a late model vehicle is more accurate than my initial comments. I think it has to be 4 door as well.

I think I could make some really kick-ass commercials if we were allowed to. One of those military-recruitment type deals - "Do YOU have what it takes ... to be a DRIVER?" Or one of those WWII "Uncle Sam" type posters with "I want YOU, to be a driver! PM me NOW!" But instead of the American Uncle Sam, we'd have to use an Australian icon instead. Maybe Jennifer Hawkins?

:D

Aussie Icon! use Dick Smith And if a car turns up in the neighbours yard who is going to be offended by Mr Smith And you would know the girls would be Aussie Born and Aussie grown with his endorsement

Oooh, that's good! Who's handy with photoshop? I'd like to see that poster...

Had many people over the years come for a job interview without the experience. Some even had false resumes.

The best was a young guy with a rat on his shoulder.

Resumes etc are fine But in my work say, not very important
Many moons ago had a young bloke knock on the homestead door How he got out
to us heaven knows.
He just came straight out and said I have no skills no license , but I listen, learn and will work 25Hrs a day We had no jobs but put him on anyway He stayed 4-1/2 yrs Now he's a farm manager nearby

Yes sometimes enthusiasm supercedes experience or degrees. However i wouldnt want an unqualified surgeon. Wls dont need qualification just willingness to please lol

No air conditioning bummer :(

Lol, I gave up hiring drivers, waste of time and money.

The last one I hired (as he was a friend in need of cash) had no car so had to use mine. I paid him in advance, bought him a map, gave him 3 hours notice of the booking time and the address. He picked me up at the arranged time, approx 20mins before the booking, and when I got into the car, he asked me what the address was, and how to get there!!!! Easier, cheaper, and less irritating to drive myself.

Of course, I realise the brothels need them, and there are some good ones around.

Qualified people are usually over qualified. If you want to get ahead in life you have to apply for jobs for which you are not qualified. Otherwise you are not advancing from where your qualifications have you now.
