What's the deal with Gift Cards

Recently I had some random messages from ladies on Telegram. Out of curiosity I replied and eventually they said about getting them a gift card. I suspect it was a scam. Any one had any similar interactions and can confirm whether its a scam? Thanks.
 
Anything involving gift card requests from strangers are scams.
I had one that was incredibly insistent, telling me it was possible to transfer money back to me with a Steam card.
 
If you search "gift card scam" on YouTube there's many news stories on it. Yes it's a scam.
 
Yeah, that's definitely a classic scam move. If someone you barely know online is hitting you up for gift cards, it's pretty much a sure bet they're trying to scam you. Happens all the time, and it's best to just ignore them or block them. Stay safe out there!
