Your post leaves me wondering Farm Boy...?
How many times were you one those 'cheeky street urchins' that copped it from the ladies on Hay St, Kalgoorlie? Lol!
And as for the 'how to let clients down gently' scenario...there is not really a fool proof way of saying 'No' in a nice way. It is best to be direct, honest and non-wavering. If you give those clients even a hint of uncertainty about your decision, they will attach themselves to that little glimmer of hope that it could develop into a more personal thing.
I would have to agree 100% with what Miranda said about not letting any industry met man know your phone number or where you live or stay under any circumstances. I would even suggest not letting them know exactly what time you finish? Let's face it, there are some real weirdo's out there and it's pretty hard to make a judgement call on whether they are or are not part of that category, during the time spent on a booking?
Over the past 20 years I have only given my number out to 3 clients...for the purpose of business exchange only, and I really ended up regretting it every time!
So learn from us old experienced ducks, that have already made all the wrong choices...and just DON'T!!! Keep your life safe...and the only guaranteed way to do that is to keep it private...
