Today we go to another island in Indonesia, it call Komodo Island. And yes, the island is particularly notable as the habitat of the Komodo Dragon, the largest lizard on Earth, which is named after the island. Located between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores in the East Nusa Tenggara province, sits the vast and impressive Komodo Island. The Komodo National Park encompasses a total of 29 volcanic islands (including the 3 major islands Rinca, Padar and Komodo) and is home to approximately 2,500 Komodo Dragons and other terrestrial fauna such as various species of reptiles, birds, and mammals. The marine environment in the Komodo Island is one of the world’s richest in flora and fauna and is still relatively undiscovered.

yes @Sexty8 the closure comes in response an alleged smuggling. During the closure officials will reportedly embark on a conservation program aimed at increasing the population of the dragons while preserving their habitat, and will be reopening for visitor in 2021 😁 πŸ‘

I was with a mixed group at the time (many many years back) and this issue was raised by the guides. We had to hike some distance to a spot where they fed the dragons a goat we had paid for. We were on a bit of a cliff looking down so were reasonably safe. I just had a look on google and found plenty of posts re this. As a side, someone reckoned we could have brought a bride (to keep!) for the same price as the poor goat, at least it was killed before being thrown over the cliff!
