State of emergency declared in Victoria

SA has issued a Public Health Emergency. Same dog, different leg action.

More than one medico has said that for most fit people of average age, if and when they are affected, it will be not much worse than a mild cold. Granted, the upcoming flu season will be a problem and a percentage of the elderly and infirm won't make it.

Last time I checked, over a year ago, I had 830 hours sick leave clocked up. I average one cold a year and last took a sickie in 2017 when I actually did get the flu.

With all the cancellations of events, stadiums, bars, clubs, performers (the list goes on) will be losing money hand over fist. Therefore we need to overcome this virus sooner rather than later and the scaremongering has to stop.

how do you propose to 'overcome' the virus.
herd mentality, lockdown or street parades?
i think you are correct, there will be a lot of deaths, but it will be heartbreaking if they were preventable deaths and caused by insufficient hospital beds and equipment.
what has changed my mind is the answers off people i know.
my elderly mother is in her 80's but she is fit and should be ok
daughter in laws friend has had a heart and lung transplant, she'll be very lucky to survive.
several friends have kids with various ailments like asthma, chronic disease, diabetes, low immune due to chemo etc.
on the other hand, a mates daughter was sacked on friday from her travel job.
i am like you and don't get sick very often, and my first inconsiderate opinion was the buffalo effect.
i am more leaning towards the herd mentality whilst trying to protect the vulnerable somehow.
not really keen on the idea of a 2nd wave coming through either.
i also don't see how we can go through several months of lockdown financially.
