Well I wouldn't cry tears of blood if it was
I was diagnosed with a smokers illness and that was due to passive smoking in the docs opinion

But on the other side of the ledger Once they get rid of the cigarettes They will turn there beady little eyes onto my beer and wine

Be a good idea if it was ,but who would police it? Its been banned in Hay st,+ Murray st malls quite a while now,but you still see people walking thru the Malls, and sitting at the benches smoking ,not caring bout the NO SMOKING signs staring them in the face

I heard a good idea (from a Tasmanian MP?) that said ban the sale of cigarettes to people born after 1996 (18 years now) and eventually all the smokers would die with no new ones coming on board ..

If there was never ever ever such a thing of smoking- if it had never been invented I would be so very happy...because quitting is hard work...I never stop thinking about quitting and I never stop trying....I just have never been able to quit for more than two or more years. I always slip...

Banning everything that is bad for you is controlling
WE SHOULD HAVE THE CHOICE
No-one makes you do it
Next they will stop alcohol
Deep fried foods

They shouldn't be alble to control us that much but they will always try

Ahoy;- Freedom of Choice is not overrated..........If I choice to go out in the Public and Talk about how great this country is, or discuss religion, I can. Then I will have a smoke and drink my Rum...........

Sometimes Just sometimes I think freedom of choice is like the Devo song of the same name

Its your Freedom of choice to Smoke and drink while pregnant
But it does not make it right
Agreed
certain situations are different
but what im saying is that it starts small then the government will tell you when and where you can take a SHIT
Im gonna stand for my rights before we loose them all

Okay We do seem to be coming at it from different angles
How about the freedom /right to smoke What is a legal product I grant you
Should not impinge on the rights of the majority of people who want to breathe fresh air

Well, as a lifetime non-smoker with a strong aversion to the acrid stink of cigarette smoke I still cannot bring myself to call for an outright ban on the habit. Control where it can be indulged by all means - non-smokers have the right to breathe unpolluted air but Happy2 has nailed the really important point.

These days the wowsers seem to have all levels of Government by the short and curlies. Look at liquor licensing, tobacco controls, they are already amping up the campaign against "bad" foods and the obesity problem.

All these are well-intentioned but if we let them have their way we will end up like the Stepford Wives. When the whistle blows we will all be falling in for exercise sessions at the nearest oval - no Maccas or beer afterwards either and don't forget to take your long-sleeved shirt and/0r burqua when you go to the beach - oh, and put some sunscreen on your exposed eyebrows......:(

Thank you, people but I am an adult and will make my own choices.

Feel free to provide me with all the information you like, even throw in some advice if you feel the need but the decision must remain mine.

If I feel lilke a beer I will have one and I and my liver will deal with the fallout.

If I ever get the urge to try a cigarette or cigar I will do so.

Just don't try and run my life for me.

How about banning the chemicals added to ciggarettes that make smoking addictive?......

I agree that is why i dont do it around others who dont smoke

Remember this is NOT a free country. we have freedoms though.
plenty of stuff has been banned from our legal use or activities.
some you may not agree with
some you might strongly agree with.
but always not everyone agrees

I feel that the rights of those that don't want to breathe in other peoples smoke is far more important as a right than someone having the right to smoke.

Agreed that the invasion on our rights is becoming systemic in manipulating the masses towards making the wealthy more rich and towards religious naivety. Our everyday freedoms are eroding in significant areas but smoking is not the right to use to make a stance, sorry.

I am astounded that it seems more and more people are smoking these days, especially the young, not to mention the WL.

Actually the smoking numbers have decreased in my opinion
and i i agree to the right of free air and thats why i personally keep my habbits well away from others

It should be banned. Many years ago, I read somewhere that the CEO and execs of the ciggy companies do not smoke their own products, as they know what goes into them. Having a well lit tooth pick sticking out of your mouth may seem cool but the odour is unbearable. :panda::bear:

If the government ban smoking it will be just another thing that takes away our choices and freedom. The age restriction and outrageous tax is enough.
Plus it would be like banning drinking, I wonder how well that would go down
